Michael, I'm confident that the Denon manual explains that clearly(hah!), but I'd think that if 7 discrete channels are received, then 7 would be output for a 7.1 speaker setup. The 4306's display should indicate the number of channels that it's actually receiving.

Mine says "7.1 multichannel in" when receiving such signals. If you've got that on the Denon, you're in good shape.

For PCM 7.1, my Denon 3808 also displays '7.1 Muntichannel.' For DTS or DD TrueHD in 7.1 it displays those as DTS 7.1 or DD TrueHD. I love it when all those little speaker indicators for input and output all light up.

New Line encodes some of their discs funny. The PS3 will only output DTS HD MA 5.1 on certain DTS HD MA 7.1 discs. It's not the PS3's fault, but the way the discs are encoded. here is a link you can use to filter by audio type http://www.blu-raystats.com/stats.phpjust select DTS HD MA 7.1 from the audio drop down and click on filter. It will then show you all movies in that audio format, there are several. Here is a thread that discusses the New Line encoding issue and which discs are affected: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1017825

I can't wait to see the golden compass. The only DTS HD MA 7.1 movie i've seen so far is Mr Woodcock and obviously it did not use the extra channels to their full extent, just like any other comedy movie. By the way, I too have a PS3.

I was able to watch the movie at my preferred listening levels this afternoon and it really sounded good. Who would have thought, 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, sweet!

Pan's Labyrinth is also DTS:HD MA 7.1. When the pixies are flying all around (including behind), the effect is pretty amazing.
