Just my personal opinion, I think Lossless is a waste, and really, in a double blind test, how easy is it to hear the difference between lossless and 320kbps mp3?

Yeah see, that's part of my confusion. I won't know the answer (since it is heavily subjective) until I have things setup and give it a shot...but I've heard plenty of people say the same, and an equal number yell the opposite back over the fence. I was tempted to jump in the middle and ask if I should buy some of those Monster RCA cables for $79.99.

Most of the music I listen to is in FLAC format. I use autoflac to rip my cd's.

I have all of my flac files stored on my computer, and they stream to my denon 3808 over my wireless adapter. having all of my music in a lossless format that I can stream to my axioms is super convenient. (I have a much larger mp3 collection that streams to my xbox 360 but I don't listen to that at all after I started using FLAC)

I don't think iTunes will play FLAC natively, although there may be a hack somewhere.

I ripped everything to FLAC because I don't think it takes any longer than ripping to MP3 and storage is cheap.

I use flac2mp3 to build a parallel library of MP3's, but there are some issues (the album art doesn't get written to the MP3 tags). Anybody have a better way to convert fully-tagged FLAC files in a batch to something useful for the iTunes crowd?

Thanks Tom. I did some research about the FLAC -> iTunes thing. It seems like it is not really supported, which is why I mentioned the high bit rate AACs to go along with the lossless.

On a side note, I prefer not to "hack" apple products, because they have a nasty habit of "updating" the software/firmware and destroying all your hard work. Am I bitter that they continuously hose my iPhone modifications with their firmware updates? The answer is yes.

Well, then, don't install the firmware updates!

But but more features... Actually the first time it happened I had to do it, to fix a problem I was having. After that I said screw it, and since then Apple's been pretty good at actually providing the updates to the problems (or lack of functionality) that the mods fix. I always get burned being an early adopter of new technology...but I have the will power of a child in a candy store when it comes to that sorta thing. I guess that's where the whole WAF thing comes into play. *ducks*

I'd like to see how you integrate that 750 gig drive into an iPod. Yes, space is indeed an issue.

My 80 gig iPod will fit 500 hours of 320kbps MP3s... Even with a 20 gig iPod that's more music than I'll ever listen too between plugging it into my computer to charge and swapping playlists around.

My concern is mainly with fitting FLAC files on my computer's hard drive, since those are about 10x the size. Hence the 750 gig hard drive comment.
