fredk, I too, was VERY careful....the guy had been on Ebay quite a while, had 123 transactions, 99 percent positive feedback, paid quickly with Paypal, had a confirmed by Paypal address, left positive feedback for me....there was no way I could have done anything different. Once again, the most disturbing part is: myself, and all the other sellers involved were not protected by Paypal. It must be a bigger problem than I thought...I stumbled across a web site: http://www.paypalsucks.comThere are some REALLY upset people there!

Larry,
Thanks for the comeback on this info. I might have been the one who made the post you speak of above (not really a rant, just a warning). I HATE when this kind of thing happens. Thanks for finding that link too.
Pete - if you can still afford dinner, I'm available!!!

Larry: Thanks for the heads-up and sharing your experience. I just canceled my PayPal account. It wasn't really a rash decision, as I've read of these types of situations before....

I've got over 1500 transactions on ebay and most of those have been through paypal, both selling and buying. I have had probably 6 issues so far and all have been resolved. It has taken some hard work, uncompromising steadfastness, and persistent inflexibility on my part a couple of times but I have always gotten a fair settlement. They are a business and their business includes people so there will always be some issues. I always ask for and get a manager if needed. Some of their call center reps are pretty simple minded and sometimes don't have a clue what's going on in the real world. But you're right, they can reverse a payment anytime (I've had it happen to me although I got it re-reversed!). Pretty disturbing...... Overall I've been happy because it makes things very easy as a seller (although their fees are too high in my opinion). Sorry for those that have been burned....

cgolf,
I am glad for you...but after what I have learned, you seem to be the exception to the rule.
I am somewhat new to Ebay/Paypal, but I do have over 230 transactions, and have a 100 percent positive feedback rating. I do it all by the book, and this time was no different on my part. I received a payment thru Paypal from a VERIFIED, Paypal member, with a CONFIRMED address, and 8 days later, (after I sent the items), then came the E-mail from Paypal, followed by them freezing the funds pending an investigation (which I cooperated fully with) and was never told why, (after MANY contact attempts, and requesting a manager), the funds were reversed, AND why I was Not protected.
Sorry, there is no excuse.

We just need to get some __________ (fill in your favorite mobsters, gang members, or other hoodlums) and I'll load them up in my wife's minivan and drive the 2.5 hours to Omaha and visit PayPal in person. I wonder if there is anyone actually working there, or if it is a bunch of computer programs and bots..... Maybe I need some hackers instead....

I think that's where the bot's that stopped by these boards once, are working now. I really thought this thread would be about Pinball by now!

I really thought this thread would be about Pinball by now! I read in The Week magazine that there's only one company in the U.S. that still makes pinball machines. Of the 10,000 they make annually, only 10% go to arcades in the U.S. Most go overseas or to private homes in the U.S. Interesting.
Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica.
