Having the side tweeters firing into open air is fine; they have fairly wide dispersion, and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people were set up like that. Mine are, and I do till get good surround (where available, as they say), despite all the compromises in my setup.

Some people - myself included - have had reasonably good success with the QS8's on the rear wall when the listening position is also very near the back of the room.

My brother was just over and he had an alternative suggestion for me as laid out below:
This layout is a little more awkward, but makes for better speaker placement.

So, will mounting a qs8 between the top of a shelf and the ceiling (2ft. space)affect sound at all? Do I gain much by having the speakers2-3 feet behind the listening position?

So, I guess you don't really feel like moving the aquarium, eh?

I have no idea why the image is so small. It is exactly the same size as the previous one I posted.

Nope, don't want to move the tanks. It is 80 gallons and a stable environment. Salt water tanks take quite a while to stabalize and every time you move them the need to go through a cycle to do that again.

No comments on which setup might be better sound wise?

Fred, most people aren't willing to rotate their room arrangement 90 degrees, but if you are it looks good, especially to give you a convenient location for the surrounds. The shelf should be far enough below the bottom driver on the QS8s(say 6")to allow that sound to reflect in to the room.

Thanks John. Rotating the setup is easy because I have minimal furnishings and decorations and nobody else to be in agreement with.

After posting, I thought a little more and realized that rotating the setup like that I eliminate bass issues relating to a seating position against the rear wall. It also gives me equal side wall reflections from the mains.

I think I am going to set the room up this way to see if it works out. I need to figure out some quick and dirty way to mount the QS8s just in case I really don't like the arrangement.

In the rotated layout I am also not limited to mounting the QS8s up by the ceiling.

Thanks all for your help.

Fred, that looks like a better surround arrangement to me. 2' behind should be a lot better IMHO.

I think its better all around. I need to figure out a way to manage the cables neatly because they will run across the floor. Maybe if I tape them down and cover them with a throw rug of some sort.
