Sorry to crap out on this- someone mentioned flac and I cowered in fear. The ftp idea makes lots of sense, but I agree the risk is higher. My original thought was the first person put 5 or so eac/lame/vbr mp3's (because I know how to do that) on a disc and send it to someone who could then play it in their dvd player if so desired. That person adds 5 or so more and sends it to someone else... who saves what's on there and adds more. Depending on participation the disc could grow from a cd to a dvd. The trouble with that is the early participants don't get to sample much.I like the idea of someone compilling a master disc, if someone is willing to do that. If flac or something else is preferable I'm willing to learn something new. I guess.
Coming up with only 5 songs is harder than it sounds.

What we did last time was to simply burn normal audio CDs. I think that has the highest chance of success in people being able to play it on their systems. I reripped the songs I wanted as normal CD audio tracks and then burned them to CDR. No problem.

I'm going to agree with audio CDs.

I'm almost done with my CD, but there are still 1 or 2 tracks that I'm debating on. One of them I'll definitely change, but I don't know what with yet. I can't promise that all of the artists will be obscure, but I'm at least going for obscure tracks.

Regular, old-fashioned, hold-em-in-you-hand CDs are definitely the way to go. I still use the ones I received as road trip material. \:\)

Dang, I've got to step it up. I'm still in the process of track selection. . .

I need to dig out all of the CDs I got! I can't believe I forgot about those.

All right, I think mine's ready. I kept changing tracks. I can never seem to make the perfect CD. I don't want to keep trying to change it, though, so I guess PM me with your address if you want it? Is that how we're doing it? And I'm ready for everyone else's.

Now Claire wants a mix CD from me. It'll probably be pretty close to the one I send you guys.

Oh jeebus X. She's just begging you to stand outside her window at midnight with a boombox, isn't she?
