I've seen lots of comments about the VP150 not always being sufficient and I was wondering what the best fix would be, 2 VP150s or 1 VP100 paired with 1 VP150, or some other combination/solution? When I ran the axiom advice wizard it recommended 2 subs and 2 center channels were pictured, although only one was actually placed in the shopping cart, so that had me wondering, the room is 7400 cu ft.

Also I assume it would be best to have an 8 channel amp (or say a 5 channel amp plus a 3 channel amp) for a 7.2 setup with a second center channel? Are others with this setup merely running both centers off a single amp channel and if so how does that sound and does the sound remain balanced with the different ohms etc.

When running dual center channels from one amp, the levels are still set according to SPL meter readings or Autosetup programs and is then adjusted to match the level of the rest of the speakers. A room of your size would most likely benefit from dual center channels. If you can swing a seperate amp it would give you more headroom for each center channel speaker.

My room is 8,000+ cu ft. and one VP150 does just fine. I would suggest trying one, and then if your unhappy, consider your options. I have never read posts about the 150 being lacking.

To be fair, I think most of us have seen the reports of the VP-150 being the shortcoming in the Axiom lineup. The most noted place this appeared was in the detailed review done by Sound & Vision magazine around the end of 2007. In it, they glorified the Epic 80 system as a whole but criticized the off-axis response of the 150 as the one low point of the review.

The system was given their stamp of approval and was on their "best of" list for some time (maybe still is). That criticism was the main concern for me when considering the Axioms as well, but when I did my audition, if there was a shortcoming there, my ears weren't nearly sophisticated enough to hear it.

Fortunately Sat is scheduled for an audition as well, so he can judge with his own ears.

I concur with the reports mentionned by myrison. That is why I acutally bought the VP150 alone first to "give Axion a try". Its performance convinced me to go ahead with the rest. If THAT's the weak link, what a chain!

I have 2 VP-150, but not because of lacking, only because of vertical music positioning. I too would recommend to start with one and worry about a second later when/if necessary.

I guess everyone has an opinion, I think the norm is that the vp150 is not lacking.

Thanks for the clarification everyone, I think I will definitely start with one VP150 and then proceed from there.
