Hi, I spent about 45 minutes searching for the answrer to this question but to no avail.
I'm about to pull the trigger on the epic 80 500 (before the price increase), but I need a receiver. It obviously needs to be 4 ohm stable. Anyone out there have this set of speakers? If so what receiver do you have?
some other questions:
how is it for music? I listen to bassy music for the most part (house, reggae, r&b), but I like all music genres.
Oh yeah, I'm spending over 3000$ for the speakers so I don't mind spending a bit on the receiver. My budget would be $1500 maybe? I could do more if I had to, but would definitely do LESS if I could (without sacrificing too much on quality).
I like onkyo receivers (I have a 605 that will be used for my daughter's 5.1 set up as soon as I get my axioms and receiver), but I'm not closed to other ideas.
Help a guy out, would ya?

You will love that system with all of your music. There is a pretty fair following of Denon owners with the M80s. Also look at the Sherewood Newcastles offered here at Axiom.

Thanks for the reply. I've been considering a Denon...
What models of Denon should I be looking at? And where can I go to find posts by owners about this system? Will one work better than others?
Anyone out there that can shed some light on this? thanks!

All the mid range Denon's will drive the M80's with no problem, probably the most poular model is the 3808, you can find it all over now for $1000.00 or less.

Denon 3808 can be had for around $1100. It's probably the most popular model here. Search the forums for lots of discussion about it.
I started out with nothing & I've still got most of it left M60 VP160 QS8 EP350 M22 VP100 Algonquins

yup, denon 3808 works amazingly well with my epic 80/500.
I got it from 6ave.com for $1098 shipped about a year ago (had to call to get the price). Not sure if they ship to Canada or not so hoepfully one of our friends north of the border can help you out.

+1 on the Denon 3808, mainly for these reasons: 1) better than average GUI that works over all video formats 2) network streaming of audio from networked PCs 3) network connectivity for in-home firmware updates 4) most problem-free HDMI implementation I'd seen in a receiver at the time of purchase (8 months ago) 5) everyone here recommended it to me too. Cons: 1) manual is very confusing and not terribly helpful 2) remote control is also not great - a good universal remote would help considerably Other thoughts... it's been reported here time and again that even most receivers that say they aren't 4-ohm stable end up being just fine with the M80s. Choose your receiver based on the features you like... if there are others you're considering, definitely let this group know and there is probably a first-hand answer as to how well that receiver works with the M80s. Maj, welcome. Yes, receivers don't know what the impedance of the speakers that they're connected to is. They just have to output adequate voltage and current for the sound level at a particular instant. Most receivers can do this at most sound levels used in the home, regardless of what the rated impedance of the speakers is. Onkyo receivers that you're familiar with would be one of the suitable choices.

majik: welcome to the forums. The Denon 3808 is likely the most popular reciever mentioned on these forums. However many other reciever are also capable of driving a 4 ohm load, so also at other features you want in a reciever.

A plug for the Denon 3808.
I was using an upconverting sony dvd player for my 1080i sony bravia 46 inch TV. After setting up the denon 3808 and running the cable TV and dvd signals thru the denon 3808 , there is a definite 10-15% difference in the video images for the better.
So I am very happy. Ofcourse the audio output is great too.
Plus you cant beat the $1100 price from 6ave.com

+1 on the 3808. As well as everything mentioned above Denon also streams Internet radio channels from all over the world and every type of music one would ever want to listen to and some of the channels have remarkable sound

I LOVE It.
It also falls into your price range. I think the new Elite receivers are also out now, but not sure of the price on those.

If you want to keep a hard copy of the Denon manual you should make a photocopy so you will still have one after you rip the original to shreds and throw it in a fire. Seriously I found that for my Denon 2807 it was easier to use the PDF version because of the search function. Good Luck, Dean

I would as many others have on this forum recommend the Denon 3808ci and if you call 6th Ave.com as I did this morning you can get one for $1099 and free shipping.
(Home Theatre Peter 8618) Ask for this guy and he will get you all set up.

Is 6ave an authorized dealer for Denon? I'll most likely get a different Denon at some point in the future, 3808 or higher, to replace my 2805.
I just wish the 5xxx series was not the only model that offered 3 (seperate) preouts for subwoofers. It makes so much sense since people are now using 2 or more subs. Audyssey would then be able to handle each sub independently.

In the greater scheme of things, not that many people are using 2 or more subwoofers, but there is a definite trend moving in that direction.

Yes, if there was one added feature I'd like my 3808 to have would be the multiple subwoofer preouts. Jay, you're right, it's kind of a niche market right now, but I can definitely see people going in that direction, too. It would certainly help in the Audyssey set-up being able to send an individual signal to each sub measuring distance and level and such.

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention it only runs off of a hand crank which attaches in the front. I spent hours looking for the power cord. . . Hey, good luck with it, Mark!

I wonder why Denon stopped at 3 preouts, logically you would go for 4 one for each corner of the room, the next step would be one for each channel, hmmm, a sub-subwoofer channel, 7.1.1
