All right, so I've got the first four items of my five-item order figured out. 2xEP800 and 2xQS8. I need to select a fifth item to get the 5% home theater discount. I'll need another balanced XLR cable, and the Axiom cables are nice, I'm sure. However, I'm also perfectly satisfied by the much cheaper Dayton cable I got for my EP600, so maybe I can choose another item in its place. I'll need at least a couple ceiling brackets when I move my system to the basement, but that's still a ways off. It's another option, though. I'm going to need more speaker cable for the new surrounds, but again, I would be fine buying cheaper speaker cable elsewhere, and does the bulk Axiom speaker cable even count toward the discount anymore, even when it's over $30 worth? I know it doesn't count in the online shopping cart, but would they allow the discount if I'm phoning in my order, do you think? Speaker cable is the thing I'll definitely need, but I should probably buy cheaper stuff, at least for now, since I'll need different lengths for my basement install anyway.

I'm open to suggestions for the fifth item. What do you all think?

You could buy me one of those axiom jackets. If I plan on moving to colorado i'll probably need to get something to wear in the winter time.

:P

Maybe you need to get a set of Audiobytes?

I actually got the AudioBytes, and I'm listening to them right now. \:\)

A strait jacket might be more appropriate for you if you think I'm buying you something. Ha ha.

Get another M80 to use as a center. If you just can’t make it fit (you’re really not trying) then get another VP150 and run dual centers in hopes that they can be heard over the dueling EP800s

I was thinking maybe another VP150, but the idea of a vertical center is something I like, too. An M22? When I finally buy a front projector, I'll probably consider another M80 behind an acoustically transparent screen, but then it seems like maybe there's a tradeoff in image quality, or that the screens aren't as acoustically transparent as touted. I haven't really researched it, so I don't know how well-founded those impressions are.

Oh, man, it's going to be torture already counting down the layaway payments. I don't want to extend the pain by quite THAT much.

Axiom's speaker cable used to count as long as it was over $30.00 even in the online store, give them a call, I would bet as you are a returning customer it would be allowed. I really like their speaker wire it is worth the extra coin/ft.

Jason, you are correct. Anything purchased from Axiom counts in the order so long as it's worth $30 or more.

Thanks, Alan.

I think I'm leaning toward the ceiling brackets, even though I won't use them right away.

Ceiling brackets might not be strong enough for the EP800.

All right, I'm settled on the ceiling brackets as my final items, but maybe you all can help on the subwoofer color. My entire system is in Boston Cherry right now, but I was thinking I might break that up with Black Oak subwoofers. Do you think it would be better to stick with Boston Cherry, or do you think Black Oak would work well?

I am guessing you are getting the vertical version. I think that with the vertical orientation it needs to be the same as the speakers, this way it just looks like one of them. If horizontal then I think it could be black.

Yeah, vertical. I just didn't know if it would be TOO much Boston Cherry for one room.

CV - I think I'd go with the same color too unless they won't be anywhere near your mains. (i.e. stuck in the back two corners of the room, or something like that).

Plus, when you bring dates home in the future (hope springs eternal), you don't want them saying.... "eew, why don't they all match?!" ;\)

Never underestimate the ability of a girlfriend or wife to notice things that don't match. I sometimes experiment with my wife and put one sock on inside out just to time her. She nails me before breakfast is done, every time.

Manly retort: "Oh yeah?! Well, one of yours is bigger than the other!"

Not that I would ever (EVAR) condone actually saying that.

Matching is fine, but I don't think things have to be the exact same finish to match. I'm sure any wife or girlfriend I may have one day won't want me to wear outfits that are completely one color, so I can see how someone might criticize all of the many speakers around the room being the same finish. I think I probably SHOULD go with all Boston Cherry on this one, but mainly due to the iffiness of subwoofer placement. Right now, close to mid-wall placement works well for my EP600, but I have no idea where the subs will be once I've moved my home theater into the basement. As such, I don't know how far from the other speakers they'll be, and if the different color really achieves any sort of balance.

I was kind of wondering a bit about the same thing in terms of vertical or horizontal, with midwall placement the horizontal position might look good/be less obtrusive, but I stuck with vertical because it seemed more flexible in case the sub crawl pushes me into a corner I don't anticipate. Of course as Jason/Myrison pointed out I could always switch from horizontal to vertical later (as he did) but that would be easier than switching colors if you wound up wanting the subs to be near enough to the fronts that you wanted them to blend in visually in terms of color, therefore BC seems a safer choice overall and less worrisome, although not necessarily the most optimal given what will emerge later when you move your HT. What does your intuition say? Are you feeling lucky? ;\) With lifestyle choices I prefer intuition, why not reap the benefits or suffer the consequences based on what seems obvious to you rather than second guess yourself and wind up with something you're not quite satisfied with and yet not quite sure if you should regret. BTW research suggests that when we overthink choices such as these we are more likely to pick wrong. I feel sure you'll make the right choice, and if not, you'll fix it and make it better. \:\)

That is where we come in and confuse all who try to overthink thus eliminating the process, this way only the correct choice can be made.

SK - I can't help but smile when I read that from a guy who agonized more over his choice of amplification (and then over the choice of whether to keep it or send it back) than any I've seen here for awhile. \:\)

All meant in good fun of course, as most of us are no different when it comes to HT, hopefully you can smile at the irony as well. \:D

You're absolutely right, and may mine serve as a cautionary tale, that would be the best outcome and my best hope, especially for Charles, although I suspect from his latest posts that he's already learned to avoid gambling on cheap junk. \:\)
