I still love the pair of Yamaha NS-1000M monitors I bought new about 20 years ago. They're a very neutral 3 way speaker with a midrange driver that has garnered plenty of rave reviews over the years. Problem is, they're big and ugly. My wife wants to replace them with something more "unobtrusive." I'm leaning towards a skinny floor standing speaker under CDN$1000. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

have her pick what she likes, then choose from those the ones you like best. we all understand that what you choose will never be what she would have chosen.

I've got to agree. I LOVE my M60's and they are on the factory outlet for $990cdn right now. Or the much-heralded M22 plus HSU VTF-2 combo has a high WAF, if you like speakers on stands.
Since you are used to the fullness of a 3-way monitor, I don't think you'd readily accept going back now. You'll love the M60. Really. They're wonderful.
The form-factor of the M60's surprised me a little; they are deeper than I envisioned. Not a negative, but just note and believe the dimensions listed on the page.

Another vote for the M60's. Not sure if your wife will like them, but if they pass here seal of approval...give them a listen.

Show her all the custom finishes available and you might be able to squeeze enough cash out of her for some nice custom finished M60s. If not, custom finished M50s would probably be under $1000.
