Wow thanks for all the info guys.

I went the same route as you Jason. I plugged everything into a surge protector to see how it would work. Everything seems to work fine but I do have subwoofer hum and I havent tracked down the source yet. The subs hum worse when the ground screw is removed from the amp and Im not quite sure what this means. Is it a ground loop or am I just picking up intrference somewhere else?

I would bet it is a ground loop. Buy a cheater plug (3 prong to 2 prong adapter). It will cost you about $1. If the cheater plug gets rid of the hum then you have a ground loop within your system.

Also check if the the subwoofer hums if it is only connected to the power outlet (with nothing hooked up to it). If that is the case there is something wrong with the sub.

Not to sure if you are talking about XLR cables but if you are I cant do that my AVR only has the RCA type of pre-out for the subs or are you just talking about the power cable. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought removing the ground screw would do the same thing as the 2 prong power cord which is just removing the ground.

My only experience wiith ground loops was after adding a subwoofer with a 3 prong power cord. I have never owned a subwoofer that has a chasis ground screw on the back of the amp so I am not sure if that would subsitute for a 2 prong power or not. Hopefully a 600 owner chimes in with their experience.

Here is the troubleshooing guide for the EP600 in the meantime.

Good luck,

I had a hum that was only removed by using a cheater plug. The ground screw helped, but didn't totally remove it. I know the cheater plug is not a great idea electrically, but it does work.

I find it interesting that most of the other subs I have looked at only had 2 prong power cords, now I am guessing it is to stop the ground loop hums.

If you find you do have a ground loop issue mastaplaya and if you do not feel comfortable defeating the ground, I posted below an excellent article by Alan Lofft which shows a methodical way of tackling this issue.
