Although you're getting the described physical goods, yes in my view you're being cheated because of bizarre claims of better sound alleged or implied in the hype. Don't know the exact cost, of course(don't know how much snake oil runs these days), but I'd suspect that dropping the two zeros would get you pretty close.

To be fair, I think many companies in the audio cable business actually believe their products are superior to the competition. I would hope that only a handful are willfully deceiving the uninformed.... And I'd also hope they have trouble sleeping at night -- in their satin pajamas between 800 thread count egyptian cotton sheets on their king beds in their multi-million dollar homes...

One last thing. Let the 'other guy' use lamp cord or string. Find an inexpensive cable using oxygen free copper and balanced design. Or, if you want to walk on the wild side, try some Mapleshade Clearview Golden Helix speaker wire and interonnects.
I have 'em, and I like 'em!

I wonder what's behind their design philosophy at Mapleshade? Why does the green wire go from one strand to the other?
I can't vouch for their hardware, but Mapleshade the record label, puts out some fine sounding software.

Peter, surely you don't doubt the technical rationale for the Mapleshade products? Any doubts you might have should be resolved by studying these wonders.

Laying your cables on carpet dulls the sound?! There's truly one born every minute!

I think the insulation on the Mapleshade Clearview speaker wires is 1/10,000" thick. They say that laying the wire on synthetic carpets has a bad dielectric effect. They use their wires in their recording equipment. Always liked the incredibly clean sound of Mapleshade recordings.
