I have the Denon AVR-3806 (10W less than the current 3808), and have not tripped it yet driving the M80s (2 years running).

You won't have any problems running M80's with that Denon. Order up some M80's. You will not be disappointed.

By the way, welcome aboard.

Beginner. It depends on both your room size and listening habits. I drive my M80s with a Sherwood 100wpc receiver just fine and can push it up to 90db in my room with no distortion.

I am in a small room though, 11x20x8.

...or to rephrase, its very subjective. The M80 has noticably more bass, and more detail in the mids and highs. It is noticable in a direct a/b comparison.

My Denon 2805 has driven 60's and now 80's with no issues. Id say about 12.5% better. \:\)

They really are both very good speakers. If you're not listening to them side by side, I think you'd be very happy with either. I originally auditioned the M60s and was blown away by their sound. However, I didn't ever want to ask myself "what if" so I jumped in with both feet and got the 80s. Needless to say, I'm quite happy with them. The good news is, you'll be happy either way. The bad news is, like all of us you'll obsess incessantly about the decision for many days before making it. \:\)
