Hi guys, just wanted to share my discovery, it may be old for some. I have eliminated everything in terms of processing, Ypao, etc...and it does sound way better...but I think the thing that did it for me is the no toe in of my axioms (m60)...what a difference. My room is only 11 x 12, my speakers are 7.5 feet from me. Absolutely no toe in has given me a wide soundstage...very nice! Try it, give yourself a chance to adjust....I hope it works for u as good as it did for me! BTW speakers are 1.5 2 feet from backwall and 5.5 feet apart

Thanks for posting - I haven't experimented with toe-in for quite a while. It's an easy tweak to make to experiment, I might give it a try.

Good idea... maybe I will do the same. I am going to wait until after the holdiays and then I will re-run audyssey with the 3808 feauter upgrade. I may experiment more with sub placement and toe in as well.

Hi osvi, I also prefer my M80s w/o processing and no toe-in. Unfortunately I have a wall on one side and an open dining area on the other so toe-in actually works better for music. But for movies the wall doesn’t seem to mess things up so I turn them straight out.
Another thing that helped open up the front soundstage for me was to get them up off the ground a few inches. They are now sitting on cinderblocks about 6 inches off the ground.

Ah yes, another one finds out about the detrimental effects of too much toe in and that it takes very little, if any with Axioms. I always rememeber Mojo's amazement when he turned his out a little and how much better they sounded.

I have no EQ and just a slight bit of toe-in, works great.

To "toe-in" or not to "toe-in" probably depends on a few things. In my particular case because of equipment shelving and space limitations, the mains(M60's) are spread out probably a little more than they should be on each side of my monitor. I am also dealing with sitting less than 10 feet from the TV. Because of this if the L/R spkrs were placed straight out, individuals sitting at either end of the couch would have the one speaker on their side dominating the listening area. By toeing them in a few degrees, it minimizes this problem. In the end, it is all about experimentation and what sounds best for the viewer/listener in his or her environment.

I agree Casey totally about having the speakers aimed straight out, that was the same experience I heard. With the slight toe in, the speaker opposite helped to center the voices to the center of the soundstage as it should..

My current position works great for both. My 80's are spread out about 12ft apart with a slight toein. You have to get about a foot away from the vp150, before you realize it is turned off for 2-channel.

Are there still mono, wall-of-sound purests? When watching old episodes of “Combat!” and “Lost in Space”. Actually, it’s “walls of sound” since I use multi-channel audio. If memory serves (and it ain’t lately) Sgt Peppers sounded better in Mono than Stereo but I’ve had a few beers since then.

Nah.. Sgt Pepper is better in stereo. It was intended that way. The reason it seems better in mono is because the stereo effects are so extreme.

I have my M22's about 8-9 feet apart, sitting about 10 feet away with some toe-in. I generally get a great wide soundstage and stereo effect. Plus I have a large L shaped sectional that requires a wide setup especially with several people enjoying music/movies.
Generally I find that the Beatles stereo albums (esp Sgt Pepper and Revolver) have odd mixes with left and right channels which create a strange effect on my M22's. These are the only albums that don't sound great in stereo on my setup.
