well i'm pushing these with an adcom 555 which pushes 325 watts into 4 ohm.what i've read here they say i could not turn them up all the way in a 14 by 20 foot room but i can and i notice that 105 sound pressure on these sounds way louder and cleaner on these so the ?is sound presure = sound level?and by the way i can go to 110 sound pressure in this room with this setup.anyway DEF LEPARD never sounded SO GOOD

Please tell me you're not playing Def Lepard on your nice new M80's.

*sigh* ...there's not accounting for taste I guess.

You all snicker at the cheeze that was the glorious 80's, but have you forgotten the lyrics? Their profound insight and commentary on the relevant social issues of the time was inspiring, and overwhelming at the same time! I remember hearing the following words for the first time, and sitting there for over an hour, still not beleiving what I had heard. In an instant, I had aquired insight and knowledge that would have normally taken a decade to learn.

Rise Up! Gather round
Rock this place to the ground
Burn it up, let's go for broke
Watch the night go up in smoke

Rock on! Rock on!

Drive me crazier, No serenade
No fire Brigade, just Pyromania!

Bwahahaha.......

Different strokes. I much prefer Def Leppard to classical. Classical IMHO sucks.

Now don't be dissin' classical. Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Dvorak, they all make so-called modern "geniuses" like Cobain, Eminem, and REM sound like children.

Classical music has more dynamic range, frequency range, and more varied sounds than anything modern. Classical is, IMHO, a much more demanding test of speakers and other equipment than modern music, for the above reasons, as well as the much more complex soundstage.

So, classical may not be your cup of tea, but to say it "sucks" is naive, and insulting to fans of classical music.

I suppose I should have prefaced my satirical jab at the social relevance of DL with the fact that I own 4 of their cds and 1 concert DVD. Do I sit and listen to them seriously - ah, no. But I do put them on when I am feeling nostalgic for high school. And yes it is cranked.

My music selection is quite varied - from pop to jazz, to country, to classical, to hard rock. Bottom line, I buy what makes me feel good when I listen to it. And that is just about every genre.

Pick up Morcheeba; Who Can You Trust. Really cool band. Or sample it before hand to see if it is your taste. Really laid back music. The lead singer has a great, soft voice.

I feel sorry for you. To outright deny yourself the pleasures of an entire genre of music is almost sinful!

Even I, who used to think all rap sucked, have opened my eyes. J5 is great stuff!

Well... For the record, I was NOT trying to belittle Def Lepard's music above. I was simply cautioning about the harmful effects of the sustained 110dB sound on your ears (with a bad pun).

In fact, I've never heard Def Lepard anyway (neither the name nor the music). HAHAHA...

Classical is my preferred type of music.

Like Peter I used to think Rap music was the worst thing in the world, but as it tunrs out there are several Rap titles I enjoy. I also have developed quite a taste for Trance.

Funny isnt it? 2 years ago I would have left the room if Darude's Sandstorm was playing, now I'll rock out to it =) haha.

Hmmm I think its a little early for a mid-life crisis at 29 ?

I'm into Trance/Techno/Electronic music like Darude, BT, DJ Rap, Delirium, Massive Attack, Juno Reactor, but also listen to some classical (mostly the DTS CD's). I pretty much listen to everything (except country) but prefer techno 95% of the time. BT's Rare & Remixed CD on the M60's sounds absolutely spectacular. Oh yeah, BTW, I still own DL's Pyromania LP from when I was 9.

I highly recommend Medeski, Martin and Wood. They are a jazz/jam band.

You can't go wrong with anything put out by Underworld. I consider them the best electornic group ever. And I believe that they're about to come out with a new compilation featuring their best music as well as some new tracks as well. Heard them talking about it last night on KCRW.

I love electronic music of all kinds! One to definitely check out is Mouse on Mars. It's somewhat quirky, but really fun stuff!

Also, obviously check out Download, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Orbital, Future Sound of London, Squarepusher, & Mu-ziq (or sometimes found as U-Ziq). Don't forget about the synthpop/industrial bands of the 80's & early 90's! I LOVED Nitzer Ebb!

By the way, did anyone catch Kraftwerk's first ever live television performance on the MTV Europe Video Music Awards? I must say that I thought it was pretty cool! In my opinion, they are the best electronic band ever (nevermind the hokey lyrics!). They've been really reclusive in the past and I hope that this is the start of something new to come. "Tour de France Soundtracks" was cool, but still not *really* new. I know these old guys still have it in them! I was fortunate enough to see them live in 1998 and they played 3 new excellent songs which unfortunately never made in onto a studio release. They are going on tour in 2004, so there's a good chance they're planning on something fresh and new...but that's what I thought in 1998!

I highly recommend Underworld's "Everything, Everything" concert DVD. It's really a testament to how hard they work for their fans in addition to their incredible music. Probably my favorite concert DVD of all time.

I like that one too, but I'd have to say my favorite is still the old Metallica Concert DVD. Still one of the best 5.1 mixes out there, and bass that will shake your house off it's foundation. OK, not really, but it's frikkin deep. I also listen to alot of Techno mixes from Louie DeVito, Sandra Collins, Donald Glaude, Oakenfold, Van Dyke, etc.

Kickass...

Question, which version of One do you think is best: original, Live [censored], Cunning Stunts, or S&M? I think the Cunning Stunts one is the best, but AdamP88 prefers S&M.

OK. I just like the bass-work (which you can actually hear on Cunning Stunts). They do some different stuff. Of course, I've always thought that Metallica tends to hide their bass too well (doubling the guitar, buried under drums, etc.)

Woah, where'd that come from? I think I may have mentioned that to Peter ages ago or something...

I think the overall effect is more epic with the orchestral arrangement on S&M. To be fair though I've listened to and watched S&M countless times, but I've only seen Cunning Stunts a couple times, and don't really remember what One sounds like on that.
