Any and all Onkyo owners. This has happened to me several times now. Watching cable (onkyo upscaling) when all of a sudden the screen goes gray and filled with approx. 1/4 inch squares. Anyone ever had this happen? Is this cable or receiver? So far haven't had problem with dvd, but I also don't watch as much dvds' as compared tv. Component in on cable (apparently the only way for onkyo to upscale) and HDMI in for dvd.

Hope to gain a wealth of knowledge and maybe use it.

Never had that problem (Onkyo 805). Could be either one.
Can you temporarily switch your DVD player to component too so you can have a base for comparison?

I strongly suspect the cable box rather than the Onkyo.

I'm with Tom on this one, we had a digital breakup issue with our cable a while back and it ended up being the STB. Also check to make sure that all video connections are good.

I sort of suspect the cable, also. I've had so many problems in the past, even more noticeable and also different since the addition of the Onkyo. I have since had all new cable ran throughout the house, and a new drop from the main line to the house. Still getting the infrequent but a nuisance gray out. If I change channels from one hd to another hd, no change. But if I change from a 1080i to a 480p it corrects itself,or from 480p to 1080i.

HDMI or component from the STB to the Onkyo?
