Hi All,

I wondering which sub should i get to complete my system.

Currently, using M80s, VP150, QS8's and QS4's.
How much difference is there in using a complete system with the same brand to a different brand sub.

I don't know much about HSU subs but willing to see all options.
I know that this is an Axiom forum, but i believe being HT lovers, you guys will help pick the best for my setup.

Sub will be used mainly for Movies. Watch U-571 and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Wondering how much different the effects will be with a sub.

Thanks guys.

I have the PB13U with the same as you have for the rest of the speakers only with 3 QS8's for a 6.1 system. The difference is you really FEEL the LFE compared to mostly hearing it with out a sub. The M80s do a very good job of LFE to a point but unless you are running large amounts of amps to really drive them you are not getting nearly the amount of energy as you would with a dedicated sub. That is what a sub does best is play those low frequencies in the 20 - 80 hz range and they do it better than most speakers will.

I would compare the PB13-U to the EP600 for a fair comparison. I did and the EP600 was equal to the task, I preferred it for music, but liked what I felt with the PB13 for HT.

I've got both the EP500 and the PB13 Ultra at the moment. I also have your same setup minus the QS4's.

To answer your first question, there's no issue in choosing a different brand sub to go with your Axioms if it performs to your liking.

Since you'll be mainly using the system for movies, I'd definitely recommend the PB13. It's certainly faster, cleaner, deeper, with more "slam". Not by alot, mind you, but enough to make a difference. The EP500 is a wonderful sub, but the PB13 is in a different price category and is more comparable to the EP600, as jakewash mentioned.

Then again, if you've got a smallish room, the EP500 would give you nearly the same impact for much less cash, IMO. It's also about half the size!

Hi All,

Thanks for all the recommendations.

I agree price wise EP500 is alot cheaper than PB-13.
But a EP600 way bigger than the PB-13.

Will try to find soneone to give me a demo here in Singapore before i go get one.

My place is approx 2000 cu ft.

Don't mean to hijack here, at least it's related...anybody compare the Paradigm Seismic subs to the EP500/600s? I've heard the less expensive DSP Paradigm Subs but not the Seismics.

I really liked the Paradigm DSP series, I listened to the 3100 and for the money it is hard to beat. I have only briefly heard the 3200 and thought it was much more on par with the EP350. From what I have heard, the siesmics are very good for a small box and lower extension than the DSP's, but still are not upto the PB13, EP600 etc.

I've directly compared the PB-13U and the EP-600. You can read about it here.. My final thoughts and conclusion come later in the thread, or you can skip to them.

In my case, a matching finish and look for the subs became the deciding factor as the sound was otherwise fairly similar. I do agree with the previous comments here, for absolute "slam" capability in HT, the PB13 is really tough to beat. The EP600 has a great warm (hate to say it, but it is) sound for music that is very enjoyable. It's a tough pick between the two. Take a look at the complete review with measurements and it may help you to decide.

If you prefer Axiom, I'd strongly encourage you to wait until the EP800 is released as from a measurement perspective, it is a closer equal to the PB13 than anything else I've heard (in fact it's superior). If you're not in an immediate hurry and you could make the budget for the 800 work, I would wait to see once it is released at the end of January.
