Hi,

I'm looking to buy a 5.1 speaker setup and receiver. Based on my room configuration I have 1400 cubic feet. I plan to move to new house in the next 3 years, I expect the room to be around 2000 cubic feet.

The current setup I'm looking for:
2x M60
2x QS8
1x VP150
1x EP350

for the amp I have no idea.
I will use my PS3 for decoding audio.

I don't like when the bass is really loud.

I'm wondering what wattage per channel I should look for this setup?

How can I breakdown the purchase of the speakers?
ex:
Buy first: 2x M60 + 1x EP350
Buy second: 2x QS8 + 1x VP150

If you have better options for speakers choice let me know.
Thank you for your comment.

Charles

My situation was similar. I was going to just buy the mains and then I decided to get the sub along with it and get the center channel and surrounds not too far down the road. I planned on purchasing everything through the Outlet Store for a 10% discount on seconds. (Everyone here says they can't even find where the blems are) Then I found out that there is another 5% discount if you buy 5 or more items at the same time. I called Axiom to confirm this. (Turns out they get a discount from their shipper for 5 or more items and actually pass that savings onto the customer. Hard to believe right?)

So I bought it all as used the "Bill Me Later" option. 6 months no interest. I would have bought the rest in lest than 6 months and I saved an additional $140.

btw I got M80's and the rest the same as you.

If this is for HT, then M60's and sub are the best for impact during HT, but alot can be said for an immersive experience you get with the QS8's.

I will go out on a limb and say M60s and QS8's would be the way to go initially as the M60s can produce some pretty good bass on their own.

Charles, welcome. I'd suggest that the first purchases should be the M60s plus QS4 or QS8 surrounds. The M60s have reasonably good bass on their own for use without a sub, although one is desirable. The M60s can provide a "phantom" center for use until a center speaker is bought.

As to the power, there's no need for any special concern about it; the typical receivers with ratings anywhere in the 100 watt area should be more than sufficient.
