Got my replacement amp today, used it for 6 hours straight this evening, and it only got warm to the touch. So the first one really was just defective.

Now I'm going to have to figure out a way to physically mount the transducer inside my couch. It's OK sitting under the edge of the couch, but everyone says it's much better when it's actually attached.

When you mount it try to make the mounting as ridged as possible to better transfer the vibration. I’ve also noticed that for a long couch mounting it in the center works best for distributing the shaking evenly. Not that putting it at one end or the other doesn’t work well just that the center works best IMO.

If you can’t find a way to mount it directly I’ve found an equally good method is to mount it to a 2x4 and that runs the length of the seating and put the back legs of the seating on the 2x4. that’s what I’ve done in order to use one transducer to shake 3 chairs w/o having to go to the trouble of building a riser. IMO this works better at distributing the vibration than using the single foot pad method and also allows the floor to dampen the residual vibration from resonating through the seats after the initial event.

My couch didn't have much in the way of feet, and the bottom of the back is a board that runs the entire width of the couch. So I took of the solid feet, and replaced them with the rubber ones from the LFE kit. The ButtKicker is mounted on the plate that also came with the kit, and it is under the middle of the board in the back of the couch.

For low intensity bass it feels really good, but as soon as something explodes it's too jarring. Almost like something solid is being struck. I'm hoping that feeling is just because of the current mounting situation.

There are two beams that run the depth of the couch, they are about 2 feet apart. I'm planning on building a platform to bridge between those two beams. It'll be a rectangle of plywood, with 2x4s running the length of it. I'll glue and screw them to the plywood. Then I'll drill four holes in the beams, and pilot holes in the 2x4s to attach the platform to the couch with lag bolts. I'll also drill four holes in the plywood and make use of the ButtKicker mounting plate. So the plywood is sandwiched between the transducer and plate, and bolted together with slightly longer bolts than what came with the kit.

I'll probably swap out slightly taller feet than the ones that came with the kit too.

Chris, any further thoughts on the ButtKicker experience?

Wow! As much as I've perused all the forum threads, I had somehow missed Chris's initial posts. Interesting!

Being slowly indoctrinated into the Axiom family is a joy to behold.

It happened to me.

And it can happen to you... grin

I still need to get it physically mounted inside the couch. I think that'll solve the one niggle I have.

My complaint about using with the couch sitting on top, is not enough of the low level bass is able to be felt without turning it up slightly higher than think should be needed. So it ends up doing too good a job during really intense bass. It's actually kinda violent. While the bass notes in (electronic/dance) music are a little hard to detect, standing up from the couch makes it very obvious that I'm experiencing more than what's just coming through the air. (Both my subs are on SubDudes, and don't vibrate the floor at all.)

All in all, I like it. Definitely adds another layer to the experience, and I'm feeling content that I normally wouldn't have even know is on the disc. (But then again I have two small subs that don't produce audible output much below 45 Hz.)

I was thinking my subs may end up on SubDudes in the basement, so I would be using the ButtKicker to make up for that. Part of me wants to just order a kit, but the other part wants me to wait for a deal on one.

Oh, the bass level and content in Dragon Age: Origins is perfect. When I don't have the ButtKicker on, it really seems like something is missing in the game.

I wonder if there are many deals on it these days. I watched from October until February, and the price never changed (although it went out of stock during that time too). I found the guys at Guitammer to be really easy to talk to. You might want to try contacting them to ask if there are any specials or coupon codes coming up. Can't hurt.
