Does anyone have a suggestion for me regarding purchasing M3's or M22's to round out my HT setup. I currently own two M3's(which I love) and will be purchasing the VP-150 center channel. I just purchased an SVS SB12 Plus Subwoofer(which can't get here soon enough!) and I just need to round it out with the front speakers. Obviously I would go bigger if I had the budget but the bookshelfs are in my budget, and I want to stick with Axioms all around to get the synergy I am looking for. So, do I go with another set of M3's to get equal bass distribution throughout all channels, or do I go with the dual woofer M22's. Thanks in advance for the advice!

I would not concern myself overly with matching the surrounds identically to the front.

As for the model, I have not heard either so take my assumptions lightly but from all I have read here, I would add the clarity of the M22s to the solid bass of the sub and enjoy the near sonic perfection. If you had a none or a weak sub, then the M3s might be considered for their slight bump in the midrange that is said to make them sound a bit deeper.

M22s with a nice sub are beautiful.

Why would you not go with Qs4's or Qs8's, they are the best for surround speakers, unless that is not important to you.

Because he said he wanted to buy fronts. <snicker>

But, yes, he could use the M3s for fronts and buy some QS_s for surrounds and be very happy as well.

That is a very good question. I am doing a customized in wall setup(because the misses doesn't like the look of speakers...ANY SPEAKERS! This is also why I went with the small, elegant, and relatively powerful SVS sub). Not to mention it is an unfinished basement so I have endless possibilities! Basically I am making a recessed enclosure that will be covered with a acoustically engineered cloth to mask the speakers. The misses can also use the recess to put knick knacks on. Anyway, so the sound will need to be a litle more directional than the Q's provide. I am new to the site guys and I appreciate the quick response. Axiom seems to have their stuff together and I can't wait to outfit the basement! Thanks guys!

After hearing several reviews of the M22's I was kind of leaning that way to begin with but being that I am open to advice I thought I would see what all you audio buffs thought. I appreciate the response Murph.

Are you saying the speakers aer going to be enclosed in a hole in the wall so to speak. I am thinking that is not good for the rear ported M3s or M22s, maybe just using some W22s might yield better WAF for across the front or the new in-wall T series.

That thought (rear porting that is) had crossed my mind in the preliminary stages. I am trying to make the space that the speakers will reside in, big enough to not block airflow. I have been doing some simulations to try to determine how far away from the rear wall surface the speaker needs to be before the sound is affected. But yes, the w22's are a good option.

Thanks

The ports need to be opened into the room, not within an enclosure, even a big one. Will it work, yes, could it sound better, yes.

Murph, he currently owns m3's.

Oh, and the "cabinet" each speaker will be in will be 12" wide by 48" tall, by 12" deep"...give or take, 7" or so back from the exterior finished wall. With the speakers near the top, angled down at the listener. Why the speaker at the top, and angled you ask?? Well, in my compromise with the Misses, I said I would make these great recesses so she can use them for decoration, so I have to account for something possibly blocking the speakers. Like a ...wooden...abstract giraffe or something. Man, these relationships can really put a damper on a guys theater aspirations!!!

Yeah Yeah Yeah! I know! I think it will end up looking very nice. Hopefully it sounds as good as it looks. I'll have some pics...eventually.

Ryann - give her the room. Dig out a space in the attic, or basement, or garage, our outhouse that can be yours. Give her the Bose cubes she deserves with her abstract giraffe.

Don't give up! It took me 11 years of marriage to get my own man room.

Guys, just this year, after 26 years of wedded bliss, I finally got my own man cave! You all have a looooong way to go.

As for the original question, like Jay said, the W or T series is probably a better way to go. Putting any speaker into a recess is going to compromise the sound.
