There's nothing like starting a good rumour to try and push the company folks along towards generating a new product.
What is that?
Not reverse psychology but 'forward' psychology?

Chess, what started this was Steve's(dcaudio)report a couple days ago on HT board thread subs for M22s that Brent at Axiom had told him about a new line of Axiom subs coming out.

On the subject of new subs I just recieved the Outlaw Audio news letter and their new sub built in in conjunction with Hsu will be shipping next month for $579. Here are the just published specs from:outlawaudio.com

For those who want to become better acquainted with the LFM-1 we will be posting the Owner's Manual on our web site within the next week. Keep your eyes peeled for a notice in the "mail slot" icon at the top left side of all the thread list pages in the Saloon. That is where we will announce that the manual is available. In the mean time, here are a few of the tempting specs:

- Driver: 12" diameter, long-throw, downward firing
- Ports: Dual
- Amplifier Power: 325 watts RMS, 1300 watts peak
- Frequency Response: 25 Hz - 180 Hz, ± 2dB
- Crossover Type: Linkwitz-Reilly 4th order Low Pass Network
- Crossover Frequency: 40 Hz - 180 Hz. Bypass mode available
- Phase Adjust: 0 - 180 degrees
- SPL: 115 dB (Subject to room size, placement and gain)
- Dimensions (HxWxD): 21.75" x 15.0" x 22.0"
- Weight: 58 lbs

I liek outlaw, think they make some great products, but I am VERY disappointed in how they are goign about their 1050 receiver and they problem it has with some ES DVD's. A simple firmware update, or small revision, woudl fix this, yet they turn a blind eye and say they have no intention to fix it. They almost had a customer in me for the 1050, until I read about those problems.

The rest of their product line looks very good. Hope this sub turns out to be good, it should with two good manufacturers pairing together to produce it.

The Outlaw sub looks like it is a model between Hsu's STF-2 and STF-3.

As an owner of an outlaw 1050 I understand the problem. In this same newsletter Outlaw announced it is stopping sales of the 1050 and is working on an entirely new model which will replace it in the indefinite future. They are also offering $300 in trade in on the 1050. I am a little bothered by the fact that my 1050, bought less than a year ago, is somewhat outdated. On the other hand it has done everything I bought it to do extremely well. It is a 6.1 receiver and the one issue with it is only an issue when it is used in a 5.1 system with certain new 6.1 movies. Even then there are simple work arounds that simply result in not getting the full 6.1 sound which I am not set up for anyway. It is easy to say it would be simple to fix the problem but I believe that if there was a economically viable solution for this, outlaw would implement it. How many companies would credit a $500 product for $300 against replacement. I don't see the big commercial makers doing this.
I have been looking for a new television. As I research I find worse reports on every model by every manufacturer I look at. Models are riddled with problems and replaced by new models within months. These are all on products costing 3 to 8 times the cost of the 1050. None of these manufacturers sponser forums where you can find out about these problems or even which models have exactly what features or why they have changed models. It is all hype. I will also note that I just read a review comparing two clones of Outlaws upper end models. Though the clones are essentially identical they sell for over twice the price of the Outlaws.
Bottom line is all consumer electronics change very quickly, within months in most cases we wish we had the new improved model. When I reconsider my purchase of the 1050 I see that I am simply infected with upgradeitis. It was a bargain when I bought it and for $300 I would keep it even if I upgraded because it does so much so well it is still something I would want to own.
Anyway, the initial specs and price make the new Outlaw/hsu sub look very interesting. I continue to be very happy dealing with companies like Axiom and Outlaw as compared to most others out there. I continue to marvel at how this forum is open to all those opinions steering folks to other subs than Axiom's. I hope Axiom will be able to revamp its sub line to generate the kind of enthusiasm there is for the m22 and m60. I say this as an owner of m50's and m22's. I really enjoy th m50's but with the raves for the m60's I can't help wondering about speaker that was like the m60 with one less woofer and priced as are the m50.

That sounds interesting JohnK.
But sometimes ideas in pre-production never come to the consumer sale level. I guess time will tell whether Axiom is committed to designing a new speaker or whether they are going to just tweak the ones they already have.
My thought is that if the 'tweak' route is taken w/o a considerable price change, SVS and Hsu will still be the league leading competitors. Personally i think a whole new design idea would be of greater benefit for their sub sales. Either that or a massive price cut.

No Outlaw does not seem to project very far out when a product will be delivered. I believe their design/engineering philosophy and practice with their factoryless manufacturing make accurately predicting this impossible. They use second party manufacturers who may not be chosen during design.
