Jakewash no need for the 2 channel version if you listen to music and watch dvds in one room. They sound identical. From a technical point of view one could argue there a slight sound advantage to the A1400-2 because all its caps and massive transformer are dedicated to only 2 channels and there's conceivabley less crosstalk with 2 channels rather than 8... but I couldn't hear a difference. (No I didn't blind test it.) With my audio obsession I have 3 systems: HT for dvds, TV room and stereo room hence why I picked up a 2 channel version for the stereo.

Also after my friend heard the A1400-2 at my place with those pricey monitors he dumped his 120lb Jeff Rowland behomoth and also bought an A1400-2. He also has some Classe monoblocks but they are gathering dust since he installed the Axiom amp. This guy likes amps even more than me.

I know, I know all SS amps sound the same. \:\/

Nope. I'm running the A1400-2 in my stereo rig. It replaced a Bryston 4BSST I had used for years. Reason: it sounds better as in effortless mids and highs and more detailed bass transients. Also when comparing the 2 amps a couple of months ago a friend of mine brought over his power hogging AAD 7001 professional studio monitors which clipped my Bryston playing The Sheffield Test Drum track. No such problem with the A1400-2.

I'll take care of disposal on that piece of $&!+ Bryston, just tell me where to send the box.

That's the problem John, I have 2 systems, one for the living room (2channel) and my HT; and the M22s sounded incredible with the A1400-8 driving them \:\) .

I know what you mean about how much better they sound. Its like the amp just takes control of the drivers and makes them perform to their full potential. The reviewer also notes how his drivers were visibly moving to full excursion with the Axiom amp. I haven't heard the M22s with that amp but I see its rated to 200w max which is a lot of power for a speaker that size. To cleanly reproduce transients its going to demand that much instantaneous power and then some so no surprise that it would sound incredible with the a1400-8.

Anyway,I know the problem. I also know resistance is futile. \:\)

They do. It's the cables that make a difference. \:D

On the other side of things, they've also just reviewed the UPA-2. Another 2U amp that takes more power than my fuses can provide... ;\)
