I thank all who responded. I guess it is not out of the question. For those how missed parts of the issue, we are dealing only with a center channel here, with speakers that are unable to radiate from their backs and sides. I am trying to design something sinmple to mitigate my loss of hearing on the high end. Seventy year old ears! I am thinking about a second center which will be separately amplified and will have highs only.

That would have been helpful to mention in the first post. My dad has the same problem now.

You should probably post on a DIY forum like diyaudio.com. You will probably get a lot of good help there.
