The lights are flashing, the guard rails are down, but the train is nowhere in sight.

Thanks Murph,
I'm not sure he has a Well system, but I could be wrong. He was one of the first home owners out here. We live in a development and the lots are 2-3.5 acres. It was already subdivided when we were looking for lots.
When you say "wells" are you talking like a farm well on farms? I don't see any concrete foundation or lids anywhere. I wonder if someone down at our county assessor or recorders office would know what he built. hmm

Seriously.
Is there anything that an appropriate level of explosives can't solve?

Good grief. They ran into your house? Wow. I feel for you, Randy. Neighborhood disputes like this can be just impossible to deal with. There's just no escape, as you never know what they'll do and it's always there when you get home. I've never had to deal with this kind of thing (been lucky - good neighbors), but a close friend has had similar sorts of run-around with one of his neighbors. Similar tales of the neighbor just being generally a jerk. Not fun. Sounds like you're past the stage of 'hey, let's have a beer and discuss this'... If he's really burning garbage, and it's on a semi-regular basis, you should look into the legality of that. You might be able to get the Iowa DNR to slap him with a fine. I'm guessing you're in a rural sub-division, so in-town burn bans probably don't apply, but I don't know if Iowa allows the burning of garbage. Maybe the authorities just won't care (I doubt they would here...) Do you belong to a HOA? I'd think they wouldn't take kindly to someone burning garbage in the subdivision. If your luck is like my friend's, the idiot-neighbor will be the HOA president. And with the water, is there a local office of the Iowa DNR? They might be able to help with that too. Especially if you suspect a ground water contamination problem. That's a pretty serious matter, especially if you guys use well-water for drinking. I would think that there ought to be some way for a concerned citizen to report a potential groundwater hazard to them. If there's *something* being discharged (even if it's just hot water) that's killing trees, regardless of where it's coming from, that probably ought to be investigated. Maybe not illegal, but there could be building codes that come into play. Even if he's discharging Evian spring water in your back yard, I wouldn't think he has the right to create a pond on your property. That sucks. Maybe we could have an Axiom GTG at your house. That should scare just about anyone away. And I know Wid has lots of guns. Good luck.

When you say "wells" are you talking like a farm well on farms? I don't see any concrete foundation or lids anywhere. I wonder if someone down at our county assessor or recorders office would know what he built. hmm If by 'farm' you mean any water well found on a farm or residence that is not hooked to a municipal water system then "Yes". (Some of us who live outside cities actually don't have crops or livestock, but we still need water. heh heh.) Such a well could be outside with a tell-tale metal cap or it could even be in his basement. If he had a two-well geothermal system, then I would think that the second well would have to be outside somewhere and I can' imagine them not capping it above ground to make maintenance easier. In Canada, we have a government department that you must go to for a 'building permit' before you do any outdoor builds or major modifications to you property. They basically impose some regulations as to what you can and can't do and then charge you money for it. If you have a similar system, they should probably know what he did and how.

If there's *something* being discharged (even if it's just hot water).... Actually, I'm not sure if you are referring to geothermal heating but, in this type of system, the ground water is actually cooled and it is the resulting byproduct heat from this cooling process that is used to heat your home. Kind of like the major heat that comes off of the back of your refrigerator. Well, at least the older, very inefficient ones. An interesting process that I also misinterpreted until researching it for a new home.

Maybe send him a long, complex complaint letter only using three syllable words. You might make his brain explode due to excessive computational heat buildup.
