Nick, you'd probably have to do the downloading of the upgrades that include the Dynamic EQ and Volume for him. Originally the package cost $100, then after the list price of the 3808 was increased it was made "free" for new buyers, but this apparently expired April 30. Maybe very recent 3808 buyers(Randy?)might comment about whether they now have to pay.

Keep in mind that the Dynamic EQ and Volume can be used separately. The EQ which adjusts frequency response and relative surround levels as volume lowers is always useful and involves no compression. Dynamic Volume which does compress volume levels shouldn't be used continuously(or possibly not at all)and this should be emphasized to your father.
