Follow setup guide? That would be like reading through a manual or something ;\)

Automatic room correction shouldn't take so much effort!

Yeap! Only manual corrections are tough. And then, it depends on the manual.

Either read the manual first, or not at all. Anything else is admitting defeat.

Audyssey MultiEQ XT made a positive difference in my large, oddly-shaped room. I followed the AVS instructions, but declared victory anyway \:\)

Nick, Dynamic EQ and Volume can be very helpful, so keep in mind that they can be installed on the 3808.

Tom, did you get a newer receiver than the Onkyo? I didn't think it had Audyssey...

I'm happy that my dad said that he didn't want the Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ features, because he will be watching Direct tv quite a bit on his setup. So he would leave those features on, and forget to turn them off when he watches movies. This compression would defeat the purpose of getting high fidelity gear to begin with.

Chris,
As we veterans here all know... The manual is only the manufacturer's 'recommendation' of how to set it up. There is always a way to tweak more power or SQ out of any system. Albeit for only 30 seconds or so until loud abnormal sounds are heard and smoke exudes from the components. (Tim 'The Tool Man' Taylor paraphrase)

I'm just curious in case he changes his mind and wants to get the Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume installed on the Denon 3808. How does one go about doing that? Is it a free firmware upgrade or would he have to pay?
