Ya I thought it was the settings too but I have the oppo set up just like one of the forum members suggested on one of my other threads. He has an oppo bdp-83 as well but I tried every setting the thing has to offer just to see with no luck. Once I try another amp I will know for sure. I am trying to get my local store to bring over a demo amp.

On the subwoofer modes the normal mode doesnt work with any device except television not just the oppo so I am pretty sure its not the oppo settings which I have went over many times. I have plugged in my computer and my old dvd player and the normal mode doesnt work on any of them either. If I bought a denon I would pay for the store to configure it for me(since I wouldnt know anything about the denon right away)and they could show me how to operate it. They say the audessey works pretty could except it turn s the sub down a bit. As far has how complex it is I have learned a lot since day one I know that sherwood backwards and forwards now. Plus I even watched the Avia theater DVD and I have a sound meter now for the channel levels. I admit this stuff took alot of my time to learn but once you know what your doing its not so bad. Plus this forum has helped too when I didnt know squat about any of this. Thanks you guys.

Thanks for the response. Please check the power switch on the front panel of your Sherwood receiver and make sure it is in the detent position. According to the manual the front panel power switch must be in detent position for standby mode to work.

Also if normal mode works from any source it means your crossover function is working. But all movie suorces in DD or DTS must include an LFE track where most of the bass is.

You say you have "plugged in your old DVD player and the normal mode didn't work." Thanks for telling us that. It's helpful to know that information. What type cable did you use to plug it in? HDMI, optical, coaxial, RCA?

OK we will assume there is something wrong with standby mode. That doesn't mean the subwoofer problem is a receiver failure.

From page 35 of your receiver manual.
"2CH downmix mode
• This mode allows the multi-channel signals encoded in DTS or Dolby Digital format, etc. to be mixed down into
2 front channels and to be reproduced through only two front speakers or through headphones.
• When the SPEAKER button is set to off to listen with headphones, if the STEREO button is pressed while
playing the multi-channel digital signals from DTS or Dolby Digital sources, etc., it will enter the 2CH downmix
mode automatically.
• To cancel the 2CH downmix mode, select the Dolby Headphone mode with using the MULTI CONTROL knob
on the front panel or the SURROUND MODE UP/DOWN ( >/< ) buttons on the remote control."

You might double check that you don't have 2 channel downmix mode selected.

I was reading from your OPPO manual section Audio Format Setup and noticed the following warning note:

"NOTE
If you use HDMI to connect audio to an HDMI A/V receiver or audio processor, it is important
that you choose 720p or higher HDMI output resolution when playing high resolution audio
content (DVD-Audio, SACD, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio). According to the
HDMI specification, the bandwidth available for audio is proportional to the total bandwidth
used by video. At 480p/576p resolution, the HDMI specification can only support 2 channels
of audio with high sample rate (up to 192kHz), or 8 channels of audio with standard sample

57
rate (up to 48kHz). If you play high resolution audio content at the 480p/576p resolution, you
may get reduced audio resolution, incomplete audio channels, or even no audio/video output
at all. Choosing a higher output resolution such as 720p or above allows enough bandwidth
for all high sample rate audio channels."

Hopefully you set a video output rate of 720P or above using the easy setup on the OPPO? If you set 480i you would only get two channel output with no LFE track. Just a shot in the dark.

Maybe you can hire someone to come out and calibrate/setup your system.

Thanks everyone but so far I have tried everything that has been mentioned. And to the guy who suggested I make sure the power button is depresseed for standbye to work cmon now give me some credit I am not a FEMALE LOL but thanks. Its stange standbye mode started working today again. And I relize that just because the sherwood has a few known defects doesnt mean it is causing everything. And I did finally get my local stereo shoppe on the phone and they are suppose to bring another amp and a Epos ELS3 powered sub for me to listen too. They charge $75/hour but I am going to have them saet up my system and finally I will know for sure if the sub or amp have any real problems.

33guy, I don't remember that you ever mentioned hooking the audio into your receiver any other way than HDMI. If you haven't hooked it up any other way you could easily have the OPPO set up wrong. I have two questions on the OPPO easy setup:

1. What resolution do you have the video set at?
2. Do you have the subwoofer setting at Normal or advanced?
