When I purchased my tv at Best Buy they sold me a 6ft hdmi cable for $150 I found an article on the web comparing expensive cables to cheep ones it involved some kind of computer test
The result was the cheeper ones ( monoprices brand) were just as good as Monster cables
I can still return the cable to Best Buy
I found the monoprice on the net for $6-10 for a 4ft should I go with the monoprice
Thanks
Larry

Most definately. Read this article if you have the time, it's a few years old but just as relative today as when it was written.

Return it! I just ordered a 3',6' HDMI and a 6' mini to HDMI from Monoprive. Total price? $17US. I've been dealing with them for years, good company.

There is a grain of salt for cables such as HDMI or other protocol-intense carrier. Altough Monster's claims are rather larger than life, HDMI cables are not regular coax cables. A nice benchmark is available here. The best cables are not necessarily the pricy ones, but depending on your application, some might not work well. http://www.audioholics.com/education/cables/long-hdmi-cable-bench-tests.

No need for a $150 6ft hdmi cable, return that. Pick one up from Monoprice or Blue Jeans cable.

Larry, absolutely it should be returned. At that distance even the thinnest of the competently manufactured HDMI cables(certainly including those sold by MonoPrice)can do the job for around $5-$10.

I'm pushing a heavy gauge flat Monoprice cable (24AWG) to the limit at 35 feet. No problems so far. I think some early cheap HDMI cables had problems, but it is hardly new technology now and even BlueJeans says that most cable works fine until you get to long runs.
Monster is just leveraging its name recognition and in-store placement agreements to charge absurd prices. Return it.

Wait a minute! you're selling Scandium alloy speaker wires to others for $100ft but you get your cables at Monoprice?

Another good article was the "Marketplace" TV episode where they hooked a Monster and a cheaper name brand HDMI cable to a sniffer type device and proved that 100% of the data was arriving correctly at the end device in both models. Marketplace - Slaying a Monster

This hdmi cable BS has got to be the biggest scam of all time. BTW good link on the marketplace report,i love seeing those bozo's put on the spot. My local brick tried this on me not so long ago. I go in to do a little window shopping and this nice looking young girl comes up and asks if i would like to demo a monster cable next to a standard cable. She puts finding nemo bluray in to 2 identical bluray players and turns on 2 identical 1080p samsung panels.Next the sales girl turns on the bluray with the monster cable and of course it looks really good(for an lcd ) next she fires up the second bluray with the standard cable and it looks like total shit. I'm like wtf, no way this can be . She has to take off for a minute so i lean behind the sets and here they have one set with an monster hdmi and the other is connected with composite. Im like holy hell, what a scam. I lost all respect for that store and have not shopped there since, and i tell the story to anyone who will listen. Im so glad im not in that racket cause seriously those kind of salesman have a bad rep and i am just not wired like that.Unfortunately there is no real markup with the panels, all the profit is in the add ons, just the nature of the beast i suppose. peace

Of course as soon as I say all HDMI is equal, my HDMI signal from my Cox box goes out. I go get another HD box, no go. I think the cable is fine as I swapped the connection to my PS3 and it works fine, but now I'm looking at box 3 in 3 days - how many HDMI outputs could be bad???
I should have knocked on my speaker when I said my 35ft run was working fine.

I've been using a MonoPrice 35' or 40' HDMI cable ran in-wall for about the last five years without any problems whatsoever, I remember at the time it was cheaper than most 3' HDMI cables bought at the local brick and mortar stores. No too terribly long ago I bought a 5x1 automatic HDMI switcher from MonoPrice and that little thing kicks ass, I've never had it not auto change since I've been using it and again, about half the cost of most other switchers I've looked at.
MonoPrice rocks.

I link my computer in my home office with my LCD TV 46in in my living room for 130$ with HDMI cables. DO TELL!!!! I've been asking around for the last 6 weeks about how to hook my computer up to my 65 in LCD via HDMI cable! I've been trying to find out what kind of video card I need to instal in my computer so that I can connect to my television digitally. It would make our picture presentation that much cleaner if the image was kept digital from start to finish, instead of being converted over to analog before it's sent out from the computer. Also Hi-Def stuff would look amazing if it were sent digitally instead of analog. I also want to be able to send all my MP3's from my computer digitally to the Denon to be converted over to analog as I'm sure the Denon has far superior DAC's then the Hewlett Packard does! So I'm wondering, do I have to install both a new sound card, and a video card? Or is there a card that does both at the same time and sends everything down the HDMI cable???

Thats a good question Micah. All current cards are HDMI 1.1 or 1.2. I don't know what audio you can send out via HDMI. You certainly won't get HD audio out.

You get close to HD audio out, at least with ATI cards. Most cards come with DVI-HDMI adapters, as well.

So I'm wondering, do I have to install both a new sound card, and a video card? Or is there a card that does both at the same time and sends everything down the HDMI cable??? If you want, you can buy a HTPC for around 700$ CND. You will need to get a ATI video card(you can use others but ATI seems to work best most times), I use a HD 2600 Pro and it only cost me 80$ and it can play blue Ray/1080p just fine though the DVI-HDMI output. (Card is not that good for games mostly for HD T.V) But for audio you will need to get a sound card. I have a PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium for around 100$ but you can get cheaper ones for around 50-80$ that should do the same job. For music I use napster and have been happy so far. So for my video I use the HDMI and for audio I use the optical cable. I have not had cable/Sat. for over 3years now, All the HD content is on the net and most if you know where is 1080p and 5.1 dts, ect, ect. If you have the time read up on it it will save you lots of money in the long run I only pay for my internet which is only 50$ when most people pay 100+$ for cable and 30+$ for internet on top of that. One thing I will add is that if you like sports and racing HD cable/sat. is still the best way to go. One thing I will add if you don't know anything about computer fine someone you know that does b/c it is hard to get all the stuff working. I know an avg. amount about computers and it took me 2 days to get it all working and it still has a few bugs from time to time. Oh, one thing to note a blu-ray players go for around 200-400$ and a blu-ray for a computer is around 100$. Also if you want you can buy hard drives that are very cheap for the space they offer. I have about 4 TB in my HTPC, for me that holds over 500 HD movies/T.V shows give or take 50, (half 1080p other half 720p). If you are willing to take the time to build and set it all up you will love having internet in the living room, heck, I'm typing this right now laying on the couch with my wireless keyboard/mouse combo.

I use a an XFX (ATI) Radeon 4870 X2 ( Radeon ) and it allows me to run dual HD monitors via DVDI-D. It comes with a DVDI to HDMI plug so you could easily run two TVs. No complaints, and BluRay looks great on it so it is not just a "gaming" card.

And by the way, got a new Cox box and the HDMI works again - knock knock - so again, the Monoprice long HDMI works just fine.
