I just saw on Direct TV's 101 channel, "Trailer Park Boys" the TV series (2001-2007) from Canada. Was this a big hit up there? Not my usual "cup of tea"......but, Now, THAT'S funny! Not only is it crazy funny, but It also gives me an insight into life in Canada, too!

The "Trailer Park Boys" is indeed, a very real depiction of life in Canada, except we drink more than "Julian", have longer sideburns than "Ricky" and we're only half as smart as "Bubbles".

It was indeed a huge cult hit up here. It's a love it or hate it thing that actually grew beyond cult status to the point where everyone started reference TPB stuff in conversation, even if they don't watch it. I can get tiresome but I loved watching it for Ricky's mangled cliches. Some favorite include... C'mon, it's not rocket appliance Boys! well, worst case Ontario.... I' told ya guys, I just don't understand investaments and. it's all about supply and command. Youtubed Rickyisms -- lots of language NSFW

If anyone remembers the band Sandbox from the 90's, Bubbles (mike smith) is the guitarist for the band.
TPB is such a good show. I especially love Mr. Lahey's shit analogies in every episode...priceless!

It's almost 9 pm.....time for another episode of "Trailer Park Boys".
Question: So far, I haven't seen an episode in the winter. I would think Canada's winters would be too harsh for trailer living......right?

Trailer living is a lifestyle . But yes, Canadian winters are very harsh. All the episodes are filmed in the summer.

For the most part trailer parks are seasonal. Trailer Park Boys is portrayed as them living there all their life but I do not remember a episode occuring in the winter. Enjoy the show!

While trailer parks are becoming rare, almost all of them the Maritimes here are year round homes.
Canada is one of the largest countries in the world so it' impossible to quantify our winter weather into one simple statement. Yes, it's harsh in the north but near the US border we share our weather patterns. Even in the south it varies from relatively warm and hardly any snow in some areas to snow as high as your hat in others.
Winters in the lower parts of Canada are probably not a lot worse than in the most northern US states. The Maritimes share a lot of weather and temperature ranges with the New England states. In fact, we often watch our winter weather blow up from the south. We watch cities in northeastern US get nailed with a snowstorm and then wait for it to hit us. A couple times a year though, we get a good nor'easter that make the NE US 'average' storms look pretty wimpy. Every year is very different lately but that leads to a whole other discussion.
Move up a bit more north though to Newfoundland and the snowfalls and storm intensities seem to double. In contrast, cities on the lower west coast of Canada like Victoria, hardly get any snow at all. Very temperate by winter standards.
Of course our far north extend up into the Artic, so it's all relative as you move up in towards the pole.

Finally the truth about Canadians comes out. I added the movie to my netflix queue. If I get hooked I'll watch all season episodes. Maybe then I could become an honarary Canadian. I think I qualify on the points listed by Adrian. LOL

I have been watching "Trailer Park Boys" (TV Series from Canada) for a while now. I just saw "Cheeseburger Picnic". Ricky, made prank phone calls...bringing in Pizza delivery, Taxis, plumbers, contractors, and a paving company, to ruin it. My sides still hurt. I can't believe this show hadn't been discussed here before. Any OTHER Canadian secerets?

Ricky's wife stoned at the picnic flirting with the cops..lol. Lahey stumbling at the picnic (faking being drunk)..lol again.... Kenny Vs Spenny is a gem. Different concept all together but you will have to see an episode to find out what it is about. You have been warned

I've watched the "Dragon's Den" a few times lately and find it quite entertaining. For those who haven't seen it, it's basically a show where entreprenuers make a business pitch to several (very rich) businessmen/women(the Dragons), looking for an investment in their idea or product. Sometimes deals or counterdeals are struck or marketing offers ect...it's quite interesting and sometimes inspirational to see what people come up with and how the "Dragons" will react to them, good or bad.
It's a very different type of show from the ordinary, for sure, although really it's is a lot like the business version of American Idol.

I watched 30 minutes of Shark Tank? today. Pretty much the same concept. An entrepreneur(s) gives a pitch on a product to a panel of wealthy investors and they decide to invest money or not for an agreed upon equity in said company/product . Is Dragons Den a Canadian version?

Dragon's Den is the original, Shark Tank is based on it.

I doubt you could find it online or anywhere for sale, but if you ever have the opportunity to watch " Hatching, Matching and Dispatching ", it has to be the funniest show I have ever seen. However, if you are not a little familiar with the Newfoundland Accent and their many unique mannerisms, you might not appreciate all the humor it seeks to make fun of. Concept is a comedy based one a once real-life business in a small Newfoundland community where a family ran a combination wedding chapel, ambulance service and funeral home. Sadly, it only lasted one season as many actors were too busy on better known shows. Mary Walsh, Shaun Majumder and others.
