Will the Marantz SR5003 work with the 4ohm requirement of the m80's?

Thanks

Parin, the 5003(and any other competently designed receiver)will "work with" the M80s. The question, as always, would be whether in your specific use you'd play it so loud and long that it would overheat and shut down as a protective measure. It can certainly be said that for the vast majority of uses at levels that don't cause permanent hearing damage it would do fine.

The M80 is slightly above average in sensitivity and requires less power than many other speakers for a given sound level. Also, although nominally rated at 4 ohms, that's the minimum, rather than average, and the the M80 is an 8 ohm speaker over much of its operating range of frequencies.

Hi Parin,

While I basically agree with JohnK, I would point out that in past years, some Marantz models have been "iffy" driving the 4-ohm M80s. And even though Marantz is apparently built in the same factory as Denon (and Sherwood Newcastle), it doesn't mean that that these brands have identical circuitry.

Brands of AV receivers that Axiom has never had a complaint about shutting down driving the 4-ohm M80s include Denon, Sherwood Newcastle, NAD, Outlaw Audio, Rotel.

You might try and contact a knowledgable person at Marantz or get some feedback from Marantz owners on the Axiom forum.

Regards,

Alan
