Hi all, After a long and erratic journey through the interwebs sifting through information I've ended up here with a final decision to purchase a pair of M22 speakers (and a sub, which I still have to research ). I've also decided on an entry level Denon for a receiver but can't decide between the 1910 and 1610. Between all the differences my only concern now is with the rated power on these, the 1610 is 75w/ch and the 1910 is 90w/ch. I'm pretty certain both have enough juice for M22s but I'm wondering if I'll be gaining anything with an extra bit of power from the 1910? I've tried to do some reading about amp power and its relation to dynamic range, clipping etc. but it's all way over my head technically so I don't know if the 15w/ch difference is even significant. Truth be told the price difference is not all that great, but with an extra $150cdn I can maybe put that towards something else if it'd be a waste in the receiver. Please help.

There are many knowledgeable people on this forum to help you out, but I believe it would help us out if we knew the size of your room and whether or not you like to listen at high volume levels.
Also, welcome to the forum!

Thanks, I'm happy to be here Yes, the size of the room.. We are actually planning to move in 2 months or so into a basic Toronto appartment so I can only estimate, the living rooms I've seen so far are maybe around 18'x14'? I might be overestimating, TO appartments are small though some have open L shape designs with the dining and kitchens. As far as volume goes, I'm not sure.. I certainly don't like to blast my music like my buddies do to the point where I can't hear them. So I guess moderate to occasionally slightly louder levels. I'm not good at explaining this.

That 15 WPC will never make a difference for you... really, for most people...
Another welcome, BTW...

Welcome Jid, as mentioned, there's not a whole lot of difference in 15 wts and since you are likely going to play at moderate levels you might want to go with the 1610 and put the savings into other parts of your system. The main diff between the 1610 and 1910 looks to be the 5.1 vs 7.1, the 15 WPC, and the preouts on the 1910(for external amp). If you ever plan on going into a bigger HT in the future, you might still consider the 1910 for it's extra surround capability(7.1) and/or if you ever want to add an amp down the road. Shop around for the best deal on your Denon, there are quite a few dealers in T.O./Mississauga that will/should give you a better deal than BB or Fu Shop. I've always been given a better deal at Audio Video Unltd. , even better than their advertised sale prices. Good luck.

Hi jid, I just recently purchased my M22's along with the 1610. The receiver has absolutely no problems pushing the M22's to spirited apartment listening levels for extended periods of time, 2hrs+. At these levels there are no issues whatsoever as far as sound quality is concerned. My neighbors must love me

Ok thanks guys, I guess the 1610 will do me just fine. I don't plan to go higher than 5.1 or to use external amps, nor any of the other extra features.
Adrian: thanks for the heads up on Audio Video Unlimited, checking their flyer it seems like their sale prices are what you generally get from Futureshop AFTER you ask for a discount, maybe I can go even lower at AVU. Great find and much appreciated.

Try Future Shop too, it depends on the salesman that you get, or even the particular FS you go to. I've had some salesman at FS tell me what sales are upcoming a couple of weeks ahead of time...I know they're on commission, so maybe part of the discount they give you comes out of that, I don't really know. AVU gave me an AWEsome deal on my 2809/Denon BD player as well as a separate deal on a P'digm sub that nobody would match.

Give the folks a call at 6ave.com and see what kind of deal they can offer you on your receiver.
