The 3808 didn't have IIz, either, did it? You must be thinking of one of the newer models?

Micah, several of the new Onkyos do, but if you mean Denon models specifically, the xx10s, from the 1610 on up, feature DPLIIz.

Adrian, the "z" adds the feature of processing the ambient sound inherently in the recorded material and sending that portion of it deemed to be best presented from an upward(rather than side or rear)angle to two "height" speakers positioned a few feet directly above the mains.
