Someone asked me a question and i couldnt quite come up with an answer

Can you power an 8 ohm speaker for the fronts and then say a 4 ohm speaker for the rear without the reciever busting? Can you power a left speaker at 4 ohms and the right speaker at 8 ohms?
what can you do to make it so the receiver doesnt bust

This sounds like a question for the experts but this may be of some help:

You could also try emailing the guys at audioholics or thier message board. They are pretty good about responding

Hi Hawkson101,

The advice on the Audioholics link is solid. If the power supply in the receiver is robust enough, you could connect a 4-ohm surround with 8-ohm fronts or vice-versa. As long as the voltage and current supply is sufficient to the various on-board amps, then the receiver should drive them easily.

If these conditions aren't met, the protection circuitry will shut down the receiver or limit current output. You won't damage anything.
