I am having two problems with my newly purchased HT setup.
1-I am unable to play CD's off my DVD player when the RCA cables are plugged into DVD in. I am using high quality RCA cables.
2-my sub woofer is bottoming out (svs pci 25-31). what should i do to fix it before sending it back. its not really loud, and it shakes a lot(but nothing else does in the room). kind of dissapointed. Is it that the sub isnt all that great? or is it broken?

Not sure about your setup, you haven't told us about your receiver/processor. Figure it's a 5-7 channel unit. You connect the output from the DVD player to the input in the receiver/processor. If you want to use DTS, or THX, you need to use either a Toslink optical cable or a coaxial connection. There are various input choices on most receiver/processors. You must select from your setup menu the proper input path that you use to connect your processor/receiver to the DVD player.
Hope this helps.

Hawk, of course you have to study the owners manuals carefully. The first point is that if you're using the analog outputs from the DVD player to the analog DVD inputs on the receiver you have to select DVD(not CD)and AVR on the remote when you're playing a CD. You'll get it straightened out.

Make sure you have everything set up on the sub right. I got my STF-2 last Friday, and wasn't impressed at first. Of course, I looked in the back and noticed it came with the phase switch at the 'in' position, when I needed it at 'out.'
Sometimes when you are too excited setting everything up you miss simple things like this, as I did. I realized something was off right away, and after checking my settings in the DVD player and receiver, I knew something was amiss with the sub.

If you go to the main setup page for the AVR 525, you can select which inputs are used at what times (what you select). The default for when you hit DVD is for the DVD S-video input to be used and Coax 1 to be used. If you're using digital coax or optical for video, set that to the DVD input. To use analog for CD (why? Do you have DVD-A?), plug the analog outs of the DVD player into CD (or the multichannel inputs), and select CD (or multichannel) on the remote. Also, you may need to set a preference on your DVD player to output sound to the analog jacks. I'm on a little more shaky ground on that one, so I'll let someone else cover it.

ok. i figured out the dvd audio-(thanks kcarlile).
As for the sub is there anything else i should try before sending it back? When playing the LOTR:TTT when the wall is blown up during Helms Deep it is not loud at all. When i have the volume very loud(hurts ears) should the sub be kick ass so i feel it in my chest? Because right now i dont feel very much at all.

It was the same way with me. You need to calibrate the sub to be the same level as your other speakers. Get a SPL sound meter and calibrate all speakers to the same level.

Again there should be a phase switch on the sub, The phase switch will make the sound wave 180 degrees different putting them in sync with your other speakers. This usually happens when your speaker wires are put in backwards (positive to negative, negative to positive) but with subs and a sub cable you dont decide what is positive and negative, just try switching the phase.
