Also, I'm kind of dating someone. She gave a cautious yes, so we'll see if anything changes. Yeah, I thought I'd hide my gigantic news in a post people will likely skip over.
Now it's on the front page!!!! Fred does exactly this to me when I bury foul language deep in a post.

Feeling it out is half the fun. Or so I remember.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation was a lot of fun. Christopher McQuarrie did a good job with it. A couple of parts were extra fakey, but overall a strong entry. Maybe my favorite so far, though I'll have to watch III, Ghost Protocol, and this one again to decide. The first and second don't do much for me anymore, though I liked them at the time.
They also showed the trailer for Zoolander 2 before the movie, and it was glorious.
Oh, and I signed up for the free trial of HBO Now since they expanded to Android. I imagine I'll keep it since I like enough HBO shows to make it worth my while... at least until I get to the point where I'm waiting on them to release new content. The Leftovers was decent. It's a pretty good premise, even if they never get to the point of resolving anything. But I guess that's life, right? The Brink, on the other hand, isn't very good, but I'll give it a little longer before I give up completely.

Life's Too Short on HBO was worthwhile, even if Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant weren't flexing very hard. They basically made Warwick Davis into a David Brent-type character. Even so, Davis brought some acting chops to the table I didn't know he had.
Someone recommended QI (Quite Interesting) to me since a few seasons are available on Hulu. It's a discussion show framed around a game show format. Stephen Fry hosts, and he has guests/contestants who are a mix of comedians/entertainers and academics. They have a topic of the day, so the questions all revolve around the theme they're covering. It's a fun way to get exposed to a lot of ideas, so check it out if it sounds interesting to you. It boggles the mind how much trivia Stephen Fry has at his command.
I see why people haven't been happy with the second season of True Detective. The story is a mess of ideas, with nothing really being developed enough. I don't care about Colin Farrell, but I like Vince Vaughn well enough, and I was really looking forward to Taylor Kitsch getting another break, but his character isn't that interesting, the writing too heavy-handed. Rachel McAdams gets to be a badass, and she pulls it off well, but again, her character's backstory is forced. While the first season had its missed opportunities, too, at least Matthew McConaughey's character had an entertaining worldview to keep you engaged. There have been a couple of decent scenes, but not enough to recommend the season as a whole. I have the final episode to watch, but I'm doubting it's going to change my mind.

Watched Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2. Violent much? Wanted to share that the first few minutes of eerie surround breathing, and the fight at the Bell's place are what this hobby is all about! Great movies I never get tired of re-watching every few years.

I'll have to give several of the Tarantino movies re-watches before his new one comes out this Christmas. Always fun.

Oh yeah, CV, if youre into concert blurays at all, and like LCD Soundsystem, "Shut Up and Play the Hits" is a reference, must own, concert bluray.
Reggie Watts's energy in "you cant hide" is pheonominal. James Murphy is a bit of an audio/music geek, and it shows in the quality of the show and the sound.
Edit: just be sure its the 3 disc bluray with concert and not just the documentary about the show.

Finally giving Portlandia some time. I watched a few episodes way back, but I didn't stick with it. I should have. There's some gold in there.
Also watched iZombie, despite the horrible title and zombies maybe being played out. It's entertaining enough, but some of the similarities to other shows can make it seem a little unsure of itself.
