Given the choice, would you rather have a single EP500 subwoofer or two EP350s subs in your home theater?
Ignoring the small price difference for now but just for reference: 1x EP500 $1230 2x EP350 $1516

For subs, I'd go as big as I can afford (and fit.) Def the 500 (or higher)

Hmmm, there's certainly a valid argument for both so it's a close call. You could go with a single EP500 then upgrade with a second one down the road IF you felt it necessary(you might not). Two subs of the EP350's calibre would be nice too though...I think I'll sit on the fence on this one!

euphjay, this is just my opinion but IF there were no restrictions as to placement of the subs AND they were set up and placed properly, then you should get better results with 2 subs. For me, I was unable to position 2 subs where they needed to be in order to yield the best results so I use one sub. More subs isn't necessarily better if they aren't set up correctly IMHO.

Jay, you need to describe your room to answer this question correctly. Multiple subs placed correctly in a room will even out the low frequency in a room for more seats, hence, less peaks/nulls.
As htnut pointed out, calibrating multiple subs in a room can be tricky and time consuming, however, if done correctly really helps the experience for everyone.
Once we know more about your room characteristics (size, shape, openings, etc..) it will help us give you better feedback. The 500 is very powerful and often placed near a corner furthest from a large entry into a room will knock your foundation down.
I had the same question about a year ago for my large 8,000 cu ft rec room/HT. I had an EP600, but wanted to experiment with multiple subs to see what all the hype was about. Do I go with two 350's and have 3 subs space out around the room, or one 500 on the opposite wall from the 600.
After working with Amie and Ian at Axiom, I went with the twin 350's. Calibrating them was somewhat interesting as the 600 sucks the dB levels from them once they were all running togethor, long story.
Currently, I moved one of my 350's upstairs to go with my new m22's, so only have two subs downstairs now.

sirquack,
Kinda funny that you ask because I actually don't have the room yet. In the near future I will start looking at houses and subsequently home theater equipment. This post was intended more for my curiosity and general education as I am just beginning to start looking into the realm of higher-end audio and acoustics.
I have read several articles stating the advantages of a 2-subwoofer solution but they really don't get into a more "real-world" scenario where you perhaps are funds-limited and have to make a choice between a better single subwoofer vs 2 lower quality subs setup.
So for now, this post is a more general "what would you prefer" type post vs a specific "what is best for me" question. Thanks for your input though!

My vote is two subs. I've been playing with this configuration for the last couple of days and it certainly smooths out the whole room and eliminates some of the null zones.
Luckily my room is just oddly shaped enough with a large opening on the one side that I don't seem to get any real boomy locations.

I think the next question is how far to elevate the subs and on what? Part of that question was answered in another topic I believe.

Slope, elevating the subs is relatively infrequent, but acoustical theory would place the sub drivers midway between the floor and ceiling, at the minimum point for the floor to ceiling room mode.

Wow, I would have thought 1 EP500 would have recieved the vast majority of votes in this pole. I'm honestly surprised that there is so even.

If there is only one person sitting directly in the sweet spot (or two people very near it) then two subs are unnecessary. However, if there are plans of having good flat bass in more than just the sweet spot then multiple subs are the way to go.

I voted for one EP500. One thing 2 350s can't do is give you the lower extension that one 500 can deliver. With some work on placement it should give very good all around performance.

Okay, after carefull consideration, and looking at Teri's picture for a few minutes, I've decided I would go with two woofers vs one.

Oh come on, as far as I'm concerned there are very few people that aren't deserving of a hug, even if they've done some wrongdoing. Heck, if we showed more love, there would be less hate! I'll give you a hug Micah, although it's probably the weakest one you ever received . Medic, you want a gimpy hug too?

Hey guys, I'm giving you some breaking news that's really important to me; you're the first to find out. I just got off the phone with my girlfriend a couple minutes ago, and she said that she's going to introduce me to her daughter next Saturday after work !!! I shed a tear when she told me that, it's a big step for moms. Anyway, you guys mean a lot to me (may sound weird seeing that we've never met) and I wanted you to know.

Oh yeah, meeting the kids is definately a big step. Since my kids live in Atlanta and only come up here for 6 weeks in the summer, 1 week at Christmas and one week during spring break I never really had to make that decision early on in relationships that didn't last past 6 months or so. But that was about the ONLY good thing about them living so far away I dated a girl for a few years who had a seriously redneck sister whom I couldn't stand. She had 3 kids, and she changed men every other week. She would meet a man at a bar, bring him home for the night, and the next day she'd have her kids calling him 'daddy'. I couldn't stand being around that woman. Over the course of my relationship with her sister her kids had a few dozen daddies... how messed up is that?

However, I did get up yesterday and kick her butt at wakeboarding on Wii Sports Resort ; I love that game. I also got a new personal best score of 1500 something!
