For the record, I want it noted that my very first topic post concerns pornogrpahy. Thank you. Thank you.

Really, dudes, five times!!! 8mm, Beta, VHS, DVD, and now BD!
And it's not like any of those titles are ever gonna appear again on new formats. Many will be sorely missed. So, when I give away the hardware, I usually give away the software. (No, don't. It's waaaay too easy.)

This time, I gave the DVD player to my stepdaughter. She graciously refused the software, so I donated it to a local soldiers' nursing home. It was a very catholic collection---somthin' for everybody.

I haven't begun to shop yet and am dreading the prices and lack of choices, since it will take so long for the industry to finally re-address my particular proclivities. No, no, it's OK. I've had to get used to waiting for what I want, so if it takes another three years for the guys in Van Nuys to get around again to Pudding Fantasies, then so be it.

Search advice criteria: selection/price. Please Advise (after you've calmed down, bro. Really.)

I'm sure the media powers are already planning their next strategy after Bob updates his porn collection to Blu Ray.....for some reason I think this thread will end up in a debate between "Classic" porn vs "Modern" porn \:D .

Yes, Adrian you are correct. And when that next technology arrives, it will usually be the porn industry that'll be the first to find the easiest and fastest way to employ it to make $$$. Thank God.

There is so much free porn on the internet why in the hell would I pay for any of it regardless of the format? So since it’s free I don’t see any problems with the changing formats.

Even on my 134” screen most jpeg and bmp files are crystal clear. Most mpeg, avi, flv etc. . . files look as good as most standard def DVDs or better and more and more HD files are showing up.

Bbigwyres has been trying to get the porn industry to go vinyl for years. Well, I guess he was partly successfull. Latex is kinda like vinyl.

I wonder if blind people would tend to get more "enjoyment" out of reading braille erotica or out of these raised pictures. My guess would be the text would do more, but it would be interesting to hear feedback from actual blind people.

On a more serious note on addressing the issue, you can use a dedicated Media Centre PC coupled to a Server to allow you to preserve, in digital format, old analogue videos that cannot be found on any newer format. The Server can also feed the rest of your house PCs.

A few years ago I used a video capture card on a PC to assemble old VHS tapes that would never officially appear in a digital format. It was basically a matter of hooking up the VHS machine directly to the PC's capture card. Obviously use the best output sources on the VHS (likely S-Video and a Stereo audio source). Other old analogue sources are identical in the procedure.

DVDs and Blu-rays are super-easy to back up. Google is your friend.

Depending on the amount of data you want to back up, you can get away without a Server and just use internal storage on a PC. Hard drives are currently available in up to 2Tb sizes. If you use a RAID-5 array using three 2Tb drives, you can have 4Tb of storage, and redundancy in case of drive failure. Most consumer "enthusiast" motherboards have RAID-5 with up to four drives, therefore you can build a PC with 6Tb redundant storage.

Also FYI, a DVD's typical size is 6 to 7 Gb (Max 8.54 Gb). Blu-rays are much bigger, usually about 40 Gb (Max ~50 Gb). My analog-to-digital conversions didn't take a whole lot of space (they were less than 4 Gb).

No worries, Dr. Riviera. Achmed slays me every time.

Jay: SW of Edmonchuck...

Off Topic, but since I'm new I'll introduce myself, ironically to some, in the Porn discussion area. In a nutshell: Dave, mid-40's, wife, 3 younger kids, aviation industry, close to Edmonton, airplane junkie, movie buff, computer geek.

I just finished installing a big wrap-around wall unit that houses our entertainment centre. I replaced some big 'ol Kef Q80's I bought in Germany during my Air Force days in the early 90's with an Epic GM 350 system with an additional 2 in-ceiling rear surrounds. I had to lay the front L/R speakers on their sides to make it all work, but that's the only comprimise. The addition of the Axiom speakers added a new dimension to our home theatre experience. I am quite happy with the added fidelity; hearing things I had never heard in some movies that I've played dozens of times (eg. The Matrix 'Lobby Scene' when Trinity does the wall walk then kicks the SWAT dude in the head, she 'kiheis' (martial arts yell). In the dozens of times I've watched that flick, I had never heard that amongst the cacophony of the battle!

At one point I had a 19 foot long bare wall loaded with DVDs stacked against it. It got to the point where, despite alphabetizing the collection, I couldn't find a movie in the sea that was DVD cases, and it was honestly a dusty eyesore. That wall was where the wall unit was built. The DVDs and Blu-rays are now downstairs in the crawl space out of sight and the contents are on my server (shhhh), but now I can find my favorite movies in an instant, snuggle up on the couch with my bride after the kids are in bed and watch an old classic by picking up my remote. It's wonderful! My wife can work the system too, so I know I've done good!

The irony? NO porn on the Server or home network!

Wonderful to introduce yourself on the porn thread. I actually do not, nor have ever owned a porn "collection," though I have friends with immense ones.

And for the record, I was typing w/both hands. It's just that I wasn't alone.

Makes one wonder when Netflix will offer XXX material. They already have 2.5 X material. What's wrong with the other half? (No, that's not a dig on the spouses... oops, not that I have more than one, but I'm not the only married one here)

I dunno about HD porn. High resolution views of razor burns, butt pimples and other unmentionable appendages rendered a bit too life-like might be too much in Blu-ray...

I do kinda miss the 1980's video porn though. That was the last time the girls were actually pretty and natural imho. No fake boobage or over shaved puddy tats for me. Anyone remember satellite (big dish) porn channels?

'70's porn is just awesome though. Shot on film like a real movie. And they would hilariously have a plot. John Holmes as a detective...

Girls in professional porn nowadays are usually pretty icky. They look more like drag queens after a bad night rather than a girl you'd like to _____. This whole plastic blonde stripper with bad boob jobs and bellybutton piercings is a more recent sad development.

I too, was also under the impression that internet porn has pretty much done to the porn industry what illegal downloads have done to the music industry.

Man, if I had grown up with unlimited access to internet porn I would have never gone outside when I was a boy!

And let's just say, if I was exposed at a tender young age to some of the deviant stuff that's out there on the 'tubes, I would be a lot more messed up than I already am...

Keeping a kid's innocence is a lot harder today.

Sneaking a Playboy or Club or Hustler was as bad as I got.

No internet porn or too realistic video games for this former Boy Scout, I'm glad I built tree forts and played "army" instead.

In high school, I worked at a video rental shop that had a considerable porn room. I can tell you with 100% confidence that there are people out there that would pay for porn featuring these apendage-like butt pimples.

There is something for everybody.
