How many times have you seen this , " I am new to all this " ? I am setting up my living room with speakers and I have a few questions . The room is 14'deep and 20' wide . I will be setting 11' from the center speaker . The front speakers will be at the 20' corners of the room . I can not move them in because of a vaulted ceiling , doorway to the kitchen and a dining room . I also want to add the surround speakers . I have a Onyko TX-SR601 Ampli-Tuner . I like to listen to music but also want a big boom bass for playing DVD's . My tentative selection looks like this :

Speakers
Front Axiom M2 . Wall monuted
Center Axiom VP100 or VP150 . I need some help here .
Surround Axiom QS4 or QS8 . Need some impute here .
Subwoofer Adire Rava

you didn't mention your budget? with no budget I'd go with the vp150 and qs8's. this should help keep you from wondering 'what if?'.

my room is about 15x10 and I sit about 9ft from the center speaker. I just got the vp100 and m3ti's about 3 weeks ago. I like them so much that I'm sending them back to get the vp150 and m22's. I instantly thought, "wow, these sound so good what if I..."

This is a pain in the neck, and will cost me the return shipping, and cost me much more than I originally planned on spending, but in the long run it should save me some money since I shouldn't have any need/excuse to upgrade the fronts and center now.

I'll be adding the qs8's to the mix within the year. Any reason you are considering the m2 instead of the m22? with your room I'd think they'd be the better choice.

My motivation is to size according to my room and music / video needs. Not under gunned or over kill. Budget is always a consideration but hey I think the Axiom speakers are a real value and it is within my means to spend more. My impression from reading this forum is the M2ti would be a fit. Truthfully they sounded more popular then the M3ti’s .I would use floor standing speakers if I had the room. If I wall mounted the M22 (almost 20" long) my wife would crack her gourd when she came in the front door. As it is she is bending my arm to get the speakers done in egg shell white. Ouch an extra $95 a pair! I have a real challenge installation. I am going to confess I bought Bose speakers about 8 years ago because of the size and my install issues. I have come to realize just how poor they have served me. I am ready to upgrade and correct this problem. I appreciate your take on all this. How about the subwoofer? Yah or nay? Dale

I was in the same boat two months ago. I also have the Onkyo 601, which overall I'm pretty happy with. Of course, I wanted the best of everything, but couldn't afford it all at once. What I decided to do is buy each speaker set separately. I started with the m22's instead of the m2's. Man oh man, those are some sweeeet speakers. In about 6 months then I'll get the VP150, and probably the QS8's next year. It takes some patience, but in the long run, I'll have a better system. The price dif between m2/vp100/qs4 vs. m22/vp150/qs8 is $415. If you buy factory outlet, the price dif is only $293! Since I plan on using the speakers for a good 15-20 years, I say the price dif is rather negligible.

One other thing to note is that Axiom has a great trade-in deal where they'll put 70% of the cost of your current speakers towards the price of new upgraded speakers. That might make you feel better getting the m2/vp100/qs4 package now and knowing that you can always upgrade without taking too much of a shot to the wallet.

Its more about my problem with the front speaker installs . I just do not have a clear area to install speakers on stands or I would do it in a heartbeat . I am going to have to hang the new Axiom speakers from brackets as my , I am going to use a dirty word here ,Bose cubes are now . Center and surround speakers are no problem . From monitering this forum I get the feel the M2's are fine but a subwoofer is nessary and that is fine as I want a big bass any way. I can hang the M3's if the concenses is they will add aditional quality to my system . I have not been able to draw a concenses on the surround speakers . Once again money is not a major issue . Just want to get the most bang for my system . Sounds like the VP-150 is the way to go . I just had some concern it might be over kill .

How close from the TV are you? From what I hear the VP-100 is fine if you're about 8' or less from it. I think the main difference in sound between the m2's and m3's is that the m3's are a little warmer while the m2's are a little more detailed and clear. Also, as far as subs go, make sure you check out HSU (hsuresearch.com).

Well Dale, you are describing the exact situation I had a few weeks back. I of course wanted floor standers, but, my kids and their healthy curiosity for ports and woofers oppose that. I like the idea of the M22 but to wall mount it would seem unsightly (its just too big) so the wife opposed that.

I went with the M2 (with the Axiom full metal bracket -- ask them to drill the holes for the bracket unless you like doing that stuff), VP150 and QS8. My current room is a great room, cathedral ceiling opening into the kitchen/dining room. I think I calculated 4000+ cubic feet of space. So, a big center and the big surrounds were a must. I went with the big STF3 HSU sub to support the M2's. I'm loving it.

My future upgrade path will be to get into a dedicated room, kids get a little older, then get 6.1 or 7.1 and the M2's will get some type of surround duty and then I'd get floor standers. (or, as was mentioned, take advantage of the upgrade "refund" Axiom offers).

I am interested in DVD movies and head banging music . M2 or M3 ?

You think the HSU is a better choice then the Adire Rava sub ? Dale

Of the book shelve speakers the M22TI is probably the best but I agree it is vary large . As it is my wife wants the speakers in , dont laugh , egg shell white so they will blend in with the wall color.

I figure my living room is about 3000 cu/ft. The M2 / M3 will fit on the wall ok I just was not sure they had enough umph to fill the room . You say yours are doing a nice job ?

About your subwoofer , will it rumber when the starships in Starwars flyby ? Dale

The M2 has enough "oomphf" and yes, the subwoofer fills the room with rumbling.

The last thing anyone has called the setup is "under powered".
