You might also want to look at the "Outlaw" subs which are basically modified HSU's for less money. With your budget the price/performance factor would give the ED subs the edge, however, keep in mind that since everything is pretty much made to order with them(they keep little in stock), if you can live with it, you will probably have to wait at least four weeks for delivery.

I now own an Outlaw sub and will offer my endorsement. Great sounding sub for the money. I would also plug Aperion for their line of subs. Both brands are rather outstanding.

Do they all offer an 18" driver?
I don't think SVS does. I'm not sure about HSU.
