I asked these question in my other thread but they were kind of off topic so..
1.About room sound... a) what kind of carpet and where to buy b) do acoustic curtains really work?
The reason I ask about the acoustic curtains is that I want to close off the home theatre room and the kitchen area (see pics) with them when watching a movie or a game.
2.About rears for the home theatre - room is fairly big: 25'x12' but as I mentioned: I want to have acoustic curtains cut the room in two at 14' should I go with rears to go with the epic80 then?
ok... how do I add pics to a post?? lol Thanks in advance.

a) not sure I understand your question? carpet is up to you and purchased locally, along with padding. get what you like.
b) can't help, never used curtains.
I assume you know you need "side" surrounds, but using rears will have to do with how close you are sitting to the rear wall to justify getting them. You normally want some room between the sitting area and the speakers.
to post a picture you put and image tag in front and end of your path and file name. A lot depends on where you host the picture. If your using photobucket, just copy and past the image tag. otherwise use the format [img ] file name and path [ /img]
make sure you remove the spaces...

Majak, when you put carpet down, your normally have a pad underneath it.

lol! thanks sirquack! as you can see I have never had carpet in my home. I suppose the non-shaggy kind would be best? like in the theatres? for the pics: Pic 1: side window that will have to be dealt with for lighting. pic2: it's 12' from where I took the pic to the back wall. I want to have some acoustic/black out curtains hanging right where I took the pic to separate the kitchen area from the rest of the room when watching a movie. Pic3: just turned around from pic 2 and took the shot. 13' to the wall (where the 100" screen will be... hopefully... I fear the ceiling is not high enough to warrant a 100" screen, especially with offset from the hd20 - bottom of screen will probably be too low?) Height of the ceiling = 8' exactly Pic4: Other side of room... will have curtain on track to block that part out as well. Sound like a plan? I have another room (see pics with floating floor): 10'10" x 11'7"... I know that it would be a great dedicated home theatre room, but then I would have the epic80/800 downstairs... what will I do when I need to listen to music upstairs??? lol! The other pics are of my dedicated tv room... will be painting, putting down an area rug. and the sub will hopefully go behind the chair (if bass-crawl says so). I have my streem ht-808 in there for now. the other pics are of my set-up in my last place... I wasn't able to complete... http://s792.photobucket.com/albums/yy204/majik27/axiom/?action=view¤t=P1040792.jpg thanks for putting them up here Mark

For those of you that have taken a look at the pics... should I even bother with acoustic panels and corner traps if I have a big a$$ window?? don't want to waste time making them if they won't help.

Hi guys, I've been gone a while but the questions stay the same. What should I do about the window... i do get the sound bounce off of it. Thanks!

Windows are one of the most difficult things to deal with. Unless you want to completely block it off and cover the area with a combination of foam and something like a sheet of plywood, you are going to have sound issues. Even with perfectly cut out foam and playwood covering it, you will have a less than ideal situation AND you won't have a window to use. I am stumped. Sorry.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of... guess I'll just go with the getting some acoustic curtains and put them on a track to see if that will help. Thanks.

"Acoustical Curtains" won't help if you are getting rattles from the windows, and won't hold any low end sound in the room. It will help a little with the reflectiveness of the room to help reduce some echo. Acoustical curtains need to be pretty thick, but not so thick or tight of a weave that they actually block 100% of the sound. That would turn the curtain into a diffuser of sorts and scatter the sound around. You want something that will let some of the sound filter through the fabric so that it can get trapped in between a couple layers (or inner/outer layers of the same) fabric.
Just know that whatever you do will probably be better than doing nothing. While you might not get stellar results, as long as you get results that you can live with that is OK too.
Good luck!
