That would be the usual situation, hadn't had a chance to look into it though. It wouldn't surprise me if the Canadian side went down too.

Any time the "big player" goes down, it's a good thing! You're an anarchist, aren't you? Yeppers, buddy  . I also like to think that MY reasoning and rationale comes into play before my core conviction . With that said, I remember the days when my friends and family would rent movies from across town at Ted's Place (mom and pop shop). That never happens, as virtually everyone I know goes to Walletbuster. They are literally 5 minutes down the road from me and I won't deal with them; the same goes for Wally World. They're right around the corner and I won't set wheel in that place. Viva la revolution!

I don't set foot in any rental place anymore. I let the postal service and or internet provider burn the carbon getting movies to me.

Blockbuster US is still operating. They are in Chapter 11 bankruptcy which means that shareholders, vendors and some debt holders are going to take a bath. The new owners, who are some of the former debt holders, will be restructuring the business. After shedding most of their debt and rationalizing their stores Blockbuster US may be a viable business. In Canada the situation is a little different (for now): http://www.cbc.ca/fp/story/2010/09/23/3570473.htmlPersonally, if Blockbuster Canada were to disappear I would miss them very much. You can't get new Blu-ray releases nearly as quickly from Zip.

Hopefully the bankruptcy and reorganization makes them a better company, Although I use Netflix 90% of the time I like having choices, and the more competitors in the market will keep the prices of rentals down. I'm with you on this one Michael.

Instead of leading the video rental market, they sat idle with their brick & mortar stores until someone else did something better (Netflix) and then entered that game way too late. This happens to a lot of leading companies in declining industries or market segments. IBM, which has pulled itself from the brink twice, is the exception.

IB who? Today, they exist, but all I've seen them produce is some expensive servers (glorified pc boxes) and a repository for almost every data base software under the sun.
