I have the NAD T770 a/v receiver, the one w/ the AC3RF modulator to play laserdiscs w/ DD sound. Produces 70 watts x 5 for HT.
My current speakers are Fried Products G/IIA's for the front and Yamaha NS-A638's for the rear, and an AR 4X for the center. Talk about a mismatch! I cannot find a center channel speaker that matches the Frieds. The Frieds are 20 years old, and have been upgraded over the years by new drivers, crossover mods, internal damping changes. The AR 4x is at least 30 years old, and original except for the grill, which was removed to get to the "brilliance" control to bypass it, so that the tweeter would work w/o the control dropping out. The Yamahas are a stop gap till I decide on what to upgrade to.
How good are the Axioms? Can't hear them, so to me, that is a draw back. Anyone know anything about the Athena speakers? They have them here in NYC at BestBuy, but I don't like to shop there because their customer service doesn't exit. I'd go there just to audition the Athenas, but most mass merchandise audio showrooms leave a lot to be desired.
Comments appreciated.

laminar,
Have you checked this list to see if someone is near you for auditioning the Axioms?
Alternatively, you could order the smaller M2s or M22s and test out the sound character. If you do not like them, returning such a small package to Axiom is a minimal cost.

No, I am not a pilot. The term was a title of an LP made by Roy Orbison. He was my favorite singer, when i was growing up. He could sing, he puts the so-called singers of today to shame.
