Hi guys, I am hoping for some input on my next Axiom purchase. I currently have M80's, VP-150, Millenium Ti's and 2 12" Square D subs (5.1 setup). I am running them through the Sherwood A-965 / P-965 combo. As for listening levels .. well lets just say I have the best neighbours in the world. I am going to upgrade the subwoofers soon, and I do find a big difference having 2. The room is not large by any means, but I find the 2 sharing the brunt sounds way better that 1 alone. I am debating between either 2 EP500's or 1 EP 800. I am leaning toward 2 500's right now, but would value your oppinions.

Cheers, Brendan

If it were me in your position I'd opt for the pair of 500's over a single 800 if multiple sub placement were not an issue, but of course a pair of 800's would be even better. wink

Brendan unfortunately I have to inform you that due to today's economical situation the finance department turned down my request of $3,000 to send you.

She didn't even ask what it was for. laugh

Oh, and also ... welcome aboard!

Brendan, welcome. Two EP500s would be the better choice in my view, especially if they can be positioned(midpoints of opposite walls or in diagonally opposite corners)so as to minimize the effects of room modes.

Man, I hate it when they don't even ask what the money is for.

Every single time I think: "but THIS time it's for something really important!!"

I have 1 ep500 and have never heard the ep800. However, id prefer having the option of trading in my ep500 toward an 800 than buying a second 500, but that's just me.

How many seats do you have? If you only have one single sweet spot for one viewer, then one EP-800 is likely to be the road to take. But if you have family seatings and many people to please, then dual sub is more likely to give you even bass all around.

I second this. The benefits from multiple subwoofers is ideal.

I would also consider 2 EP500's vs a single EP800. Either way, you're looking at some serious bass there.

I think I would go for the extra low end the 800 offers and then add the 500 to smooth things out through out the room. Just run the 800 with your present subs until you can come up with the rest of the money to get the 500 later on.

You already answered your question. Go for the two 500s as your room noticeably benefits from two subs.

I engineered a takover of my finance department, but for some reason there isn't enough in the vault for 2 800s. wink

Boy I am still conflicted. I was leaning away from the 800 due to its large upright size, but then discovered it can be ordered to be horizontal. I like the fact that the 800 can really pound out lower frequency. My room is not ideal, and may change in the next few years, so 2 500 would be better in that situation (I try to buy what would also work well fo me in the future). I guess one thing I have going for me is the lack of a financing department to have to contend with ... wink

Cheers, Brendan

I agree with the suggestion to use one EP800 and one or more of your current subs if the EP800 does not fulfill your bass needs by itself.

For what its worth, the 800 has a visual "wow" factor or "cool" factor that you will never achieve with an ep500... I think it is the gigantic enclosure and dual woofers that make it so freaking cool looking.

Get an ep800. You can always add a second sub of your choice down the line if budget permits in the years to come.

Thanks for all of your feed back. After taking into account all of your opinions, I think I have decided on the 800. I won't be purchasing it for about 3 months, so I still have time to ponder over it. Now one question I did have was in regards to ordering. In the past, Axiom offered a slight discount on the product if you were willing to wait until their next production run of whatever it was that you ordered (usually 4-6 weeks). I cannot find this option anywhere. Does anyone knoe if this offer is still available? If it is, a link would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Brendan

That was when you were buying from the factory outlet and the option is now gone. It has been replaced by the auction site but I haven't seen any EP800 there yet (and I don't think we'll ever see one).

Oh, I wouldn't be too surprised to see one. Those cabinets have to have defects, just like the other cabinets. And it would be more expensive to toss one of those than to toss an M2.

I suspect due to the cost thus less made of the 800 it will just take longer to have B stock available,
