Jai Alai comes to mind as does Lacrosse. Squash and Raquetball are 2 more not too popular sports that use balls. Field Hockey and Hurling are 2 more. Rugny isn't too popular in North America.

Ha ha, yes, I thought of Mad Men, too.

I'm just thinking it will be weird and possibly construed as funny if I give my friend some obscure balls for her birthday. Yes, I'm out of ideas for real gifts.

Bowls, marbles, jacks

Ok, the latter two might be more considered games.

Bocce Ball comes to mind, a gret lawn/yard game dating back to the Roman Empire. The current game as we know it was developed in Italy.

Polo is a fairly popular sport in south Florida, and I believe polo pretty much has clubs throughout North and South America. I don't know how widespread Cricket is, but due to the Caribbean influence in south Florida it's somewhat popular down here also.

Zorbing Ball isn't nearly as popular here though.

Cricket is quite popular outside of North America, much like soccer.

I know. Football. It's not popular because I "almost" never watch it.

The size of my universe keeps shrinking.

I used to watch Jai Alai when I was stationed in Newport, RI. It might not be popular, but it was pretty entertaining the few times I saw it.

Michael, I didn't know you were at Newport. How long ago? I lived in Postsmouth and had been to that Jai Alai many times....

I can just see Charles filling out the card:

Happy Birthday!

When I think of you, I think of balls.

I hope that these balls give you years of pleasure.

Be sure to pull them out and play with them often.

I'll be watching you through my telescope. And the webcam that is installed in each ball.

Love,

Charles

Lucile Ball was popular in the 50's, not so much now.

Watch your tongue. Ping pong -- or more properly, table tennis -- is not unpopular.

Afghan polo - played with a Kuffir's head.

Golf should be played with Titleists.

Handball with one of those little purple palm bruisers.

Marbles.

Jax. Jacks? Jax. Little pink one.

Spalding pinks (Spaldeens) for punch ball, stick ball, stoop ball, and American and Chinese handball. (New York style)

Of course Wheelz comes up with one of those Commie homosexual passtimes which they ascribe to middle America.

You know, your a real treat, that quite obviously is a member of the upper class, as your disdain for anyone that actually has any sort of real (positive) change is quite evident.

When did I say I'm a commie? When did I say I was homosexual? Is there anything wrong with being homosexual? People who don't have a warped moral compass don't say such things. But then again, I actually did'nt know that it was a homosexual act, as I've only seen it in the heterosexual movies, so you've obviously done your research.

Do yourself a favor and take the silver spoon out of your mouth, apparently the metals are affecting your brain.

Personally I liked the xenophobic stereotyping.

OTOH, your teabag joke wasn't really my cuppa, either.

You know, I kind of want to start collecting these balls for myself. It would be nice to have a ball museum of sorts.
