The Apple Iscrew © ™
It seems the most recent release of the Iphone (and Ipad??) are secured with a proprietary screw and Apple will only sell you the driver if you are Apple certified.
So, have you been Iscrewed?

This story was blown way out of proportion. Apple has had the "pentalobe" screw on their laptop computers for a while now. Where was the outrage then? The screwdrivers needed to remove them are not difficult to find, either.

Of course it was blown out of proportion. It was, after all, a handy way for iFixit to sell screwdrivers.
Do you often have to disassemble your iPhone? I grant that it's nice to be able to do it, but you CAN. If you buy this handy part from ifixit, and while you're here, you might as well buy a battery too...
I'm not saying that Apple's completely free from fault here (lord knows, they're not), but iFixit's not just doing this to be cool, either.

I'm surprised Wheelz hasn't told Apple to go screw themselves.

If not to keep you out and the apple service guys profitable, what is the motive for commissioning a proprietary screw?

It's to keep you out. It could be (if you look at it in the very, very best possible light), it's to keep you out so you can't screw up the hardware and then try to get it repaired when you're not eligible.
