Hello, Would a yamaha rx-v667 be a good pick for the Epic 80 home theater system?

It wouldn't be my first choice.

The M80's are a somewhat challenging load for an amplifier. Oh, not like Magnepans or anything, but you want to make sure you have plenty of clean power. Lots of people have had really good success with Denon receivers.

Nobody seems to complain about Denon, other than their horrendous operator manuals from hades, or the newer Onkyo's are quite popular as well.

In the specs for the RX-V667 it states - 'Input Impedance 47 KOhm'

What exactly is the '47 KOhm' rating?

The 667 will work just depends on how loud and how long you want to be able to play the M80's. Now I believe the 667 has amp preouts (yes?), so you could easily add an external amp to run the M80s if the 667 shuts down at all.

I didn't think the specs on the AVR didn't look too bad, I'd give it a whirl.

For a similar price or maybe slightly less I can recommend the Pioneer VSX-1120-K.

Landon, welcome. From the standpoint simply of basic amplification, the 667 should be fine. The M80s are slightly above average in sensitivity and are relatively easy to drive at all safe(to your hearing)listening levels.

Nevertheless, for similar money, I'd suggest that you consider one of the Denon or Onkyo models with Audyssey MultEQ auto-calibration and room equalization. This is considered by many(including me)as being more advanced than the YPAO system used for this by Yamaha. A particularly good buy at this time is the Onkyo 707 factory refurb from A4L for about $400.
