Yes, I hooked up 80's the 772 again because my Onkyo amp will be another week at least. Man, they sound good after not listening for awhile.

I am seriously thinking another VP150, just because I have one and probably fit it in easily compared to VP180.

The horizontal dispersion of the VP180 is quite good. I find that I need to exceed 30 degrees off centre before losing 2-3dB. I don't actually have any seating that far off, was just testing / measuring for curiosity sake.

Yes, if you leave it horizontal, that is the purpose of the design. Flipping it vertical would not be good for l/c/r as catbrat was asking.

What about if you set it on a 45 degree angle to split the difference? Eh, eh .

I'm not so sure that using the VP180 vertically is such a bad idea. I've heard Alan say that the VP150 in a vertical position sounds good. If that's the case, then perhaps almost any center channel speaker would sound good in a vertical position (excpeting those where they crowd all the speakers together).

It looks like it's only using a vertical speaker horizontally sounds bad.

I haven't heard anything negative about the 180 from owners. In fact, it's all been "glowing" and makes me want one.

I'm sure it will sound ok, but the drivers are designed to have a horizontal dispersion when in a horizontal orientation, if you flip the speaker in no longer has the same qualities. Would be no different than laying a regular M80 on its side, you wouldn't normally do this.

Aren't the drivers the same in all of the different speaker cabinets?

Same drivers, and I am not a speaker designer, however, it is my understanding that the sound disperses horizontally, so if you flip the speaker it will be dispersing horizontally, not what you want and goes against he design purpose.

It's actually the crossover design that compensates for the front baffle being wider in the VP180; selecting a slightly different frequency response curve.

A speaker designed for horizontal placement will not be as linear when placed vertically. It'll still sound good, but some frequencies may be accented or attenuated more than it's vertical companion (which also has a curve manipulated for it's designated placement).
