I was just curious what size stands you think i should get for my brand spankin new M22ti's? I would like to get 16 inch stands, but they seem like they might be too short. This is is my current setup but with 16 inch stands. So what do you think 16 or taller?

Edit: Just realized this should be in the Advice from Axiom Owners Forum... Sorry

The general rule of thumb seems to be that the tweeter in the 22s should be as close to ear level as possible. So haul out a tape measure, see how tall your ears are , subtract the 22's 19 and 1/2 inch height from that, and that'll give you an idea how tall the stands should be. If I had my 22s on stands (wish I did), I'd have them on 24 inch stands to be at my approximate ear height (I have tall ears).

Don't worry about posting in the wrong place. Nobody here is going to shoot you. Well..............almost nobody.

Nice drawing, by the way. Good job!

I like to keep the tweeters of the center and left/right speakers roughly aligned. Since your center is so high, I would recommend higher stands for the M22s. You probably don't want it all the way up, because it would be above your seated ear height. 24-inch stands might be a good compromise.

I use a projection screen, with the center speaker across the bottom. For my configuration, the 16-inch stands for my M22s and a 24-inch stand for the center is just right. They are all roughly aligned, and only a little below my ears in couch-potato position.

I installed M22's with FMB's last night. the bottom of the speaker is 26" off the floor. this aligns the speakers with my head and also with the tv screen. 16" seems too low, unless you are sitting on the floor.

Hi crazedaku,

I moved my M22s from 16-inch to 24-inch stands to bring them up closer to the height of the TV screen and the center channel.

Apart from raising the soundstage higher, which is what I wanted, the M22s sounded excellent at that height, the same as they did on 16-inch stands in stereo only. All the sonic virtues were preserved on the higher stands. Don't get too obsessed with tweeter height. I don't find the M22s critical in that respect, at least not over a reasonable range of heights.

Hmmm. I currently have mine on 16" stands. I guess I"ll be getting some thick books out tonight and playing around with speaker height....

I too have my 22's on 24" stands.I got a pair of stands by VTI from discounts-n-deals. They have a nice heavy metal base and are sand fillable Even with being rather tall they are still stable.

I have my M22's on 22" Sound Organisation stands from Audioadvisor. Very stable, sharp stands, and they're a great height for my system.

Wow, thanks for all the response, so i busted out a tape measure like suggested and realized that my ears are at 36 inches when im sitting down and at about 27 inches when im laying down on my couch, so i think im gonna stick with my original plan and go with 16 inch stands. Oh thx on the the pic btw, i made my tv stand so i did a lot of measurements and still had it all on the computer. Just had to add some stands to the side.

Don't overlook Alan's advice about getting the tweeters somewhere close to the same height as the center channel. That's not easy because the center is usually above or below the screen.

Also don't forget that the tweeter in the 22s is about 17 inches from the bottom of the speaker. So a 16 inch stand would put the tweeters about 33 inches. If you're looking for a compromise between 27 and 36 inch listening position, I guess that would do pretty well, as long as there isn't a HUGE difference between the height of the 22s' tweeters and the center channel.

I don't have the room for optimal placement of my speakers, and my 22s' tweeters are about 2 feet higher than my center. If I could, I'd get them closer. But, to tell you the truth, I haven't noticed any imaging problems. I attribute that to the VP150 excellent dispersion which makes the sound seem to be coming directly from the center of the screen, which is only an inch or two lower than the 22s' tweeters. It works for me.

Enjoy your Axioms!

I have mine on 21" stands. Puts them at perfect level. Ideally I'd like to have them the same height as my VP100, but I really don't want 30"+ stands with animals and kids.

well, right now i have the speakers on the floor, and i watched saving private ryan, and the only problem i had was that the sound didnt seem like it was high enough from the sides. The center was crisp and clear, i heard it perfectly, but i had to up the volume on the front right and left to get a decent sound field id guess youd call it. And as Alan said i shouldnt be too obsessed with the tweeter height, so im not too concerned with having the them all alighned. So i guess i was just trying to raise the sound height. Too late to change my mind anyway, already ordered the stands.

Well, I added some thick hardbound scifi books (at last the crappy pre-dune books have a purpose) to the 16in stands so my babies... I mean M22s are at about 24 inches. Looks like I need to find some solid 24 inch tall stands in SF. I got much better stereo imaging by raising them that high and HT was even better (I did not know I could get better smooth panning from left to right). Of course this could also be partly due to upgrading from the VP100 to the VP150. Again, Axiom customer service is hands down the absolute best I have ever experienced. Aime is a rock star!

Okay well i got the stands and got my speakers on em. Here for your viewing pleasure.

I havnt Listened to em yet, just got the stands a little while ago, figured i'd post a pic.

I had to stand on my couch to fit everything in due to the small size of my room.

Very nice!! I love the way these things all look.

I was just thinking, if you wanted some additional room, you could get that couch out of there entirely. You don't watch it or listen to it. What good is it?

I also notice that the wall behind your TV would support the installation of a 37" ED plasma very nicely. With the couch gone, you would be able to watch the new TV. OK , now I'm getting excited.

okay, but i do sit on the couch and is much more comfortable then sitting on the floor with my back on the wall. I cant tell if your being sacrastic, which i think you are.

And i would never buy a plasma as they seem to have bad rap as far as longevity of the product. Where I work, we just installed 2 plasma screens and they have already turned blue, within six months and the sides of the picture have seemed to shrink in. Some other flat Tv would also fit nicely there, but i have plans for a nice 30" 16x9 CRT HDTV, and thats why we made the tv stand that much bigger than my current tv.

The speakers look pretty good, and match you TV stand pretty well! How far away from the speakers do you sit? I'm asking because you seem to have a lot of space available and I'm wondering why the speakers are so close together.

Yeah craze, as Peter implied, those speakers should be separated nearly as much as your distance from them, if possible.

im only sitting about 5 feet away. Ha, that is 9 ft, from wall to wall there, my room is 16x9 feet- 2x4 square where the closet is. And i have a bed, and dresser and couch in there, the room is actually quite spacious when your in it.
