So, how long until Blu-ray is passé?

Link

No official price yet, though it is disturbing that they consider "under $25,000" to be "affordable".

It's meant to paired with the $27,000 Sony SS-AR1 flagship speakers grin . At 4k that is quite a bargain to add to your Sony flagship home theater system.

LOL. I remember when people were taking LCD screens, ripping the screen out of the housing, an putting the now "naked" screen on top of a light source and "projecting" it.

You don't hear much about that anymore.

If I remember correctly, the nice thing about a 4k display is that you use the cheap passive 3d glasses and still have 1080p to each eye. I don't really care much about 3d though.

4k may be a discernible upgrade in the projector realm, but probably not in TV's. So just 4k alone is not enough to push it as the next big thing. 3D TV sales have been pretty poor overall. I don't know if having passive glasses with 1080p to each eye is a big enough selling point to turn things around.

I should have said a 4k 3d display. In a 4k 3d display designed to work with passive glasses, supposedly you can have 1080p to each eye. With the current 1080p 3d displays designed for passive glasses you have less that 1080p to each eye. One major push to going to 4k displays is for this better 3d implementation.

Three of the new JVCs are 4K. They use some sort of upscale tech that I haven't bothered to study up on yet. Street price will be about $3500 - $8000. Reviews are not out yet, so the waiting game begins...

I'm actually thinking about going DLP this time. Mits has a new one out that sounds promising, especially for 3D fans (of which I'm not). Model #7800, with an MSRP of $3500

I'm still looking to figure out what is going to be the best 2D projector for under $2000. With all of the new models, not sure if I should wait until more reviews, or bite on a Panny AE4000U now. Not 4K, but I don't think that I will be able to wait for a 4K projector for until $2000.
