"In the 33 years Strang has been teaching in Valdez, the schools have never been closed on account of snow. All those years, they've only shut down three times, he said, and that was due to wind."
I'd have hated that place as a kid!

Sounds like the kind of place where a bike for Xmas could make a 10-year old suicidal.

Just cuddle up to a couple of nice, warm, lushous, curvy Napa bottles of goodness. If you don't stay warm, at least you would suffocate under a blanket of snow without knowing there was ever a catastrophe in the making. Ah sweet sweet Napa reds....

That's incredible! That graphic of the Man / House / Goal Post / Your Snow really brings it home.

We had 3 hot air balloons fly over our property today. Can't recall ever seeing that ever around this time a year in Iowa.

Doesn't Newfoundland get about the same amount of snowfall?

It's capital "St. John's" averages 126 inches per year. But I remember years when they have gotten that much in just a weekend.
Edit: Actually even though we are a bit more south, here in PEI our 30 year historical average is slightly more at 131" per year. However, I currently give Newfoundland a strong edge as our winters seem to have considerably less snow every year now for a some time now. It's actually to the point we are actually suffering ill effects as a result. Right now I can see all my lawn and on a mild day last week, it actually started getting green again above the septic tank. Historically, it should be completely snow covered by a cumulative foot or two by now and our snowbanks should be as tall as me in places.
Newfoundland however seems to actually be getting worse. The last few years they got pounded by blizzard after blizzard after blizzard. I think they need to choose a new patron. Ol' John Boy seems to have it in for them.

Some of you will remember this one but for the newer folk, here is my road after a particularly nasty January blizzard back on 2003. In comparison, this January I can see my entire lawn. We have had some snow flurries alright, but it keeps melting shortly after it arrives.

Wow Michael, we haven't had any snow, in fact it was the 3rd driest December in our towns history. Then again we just got back from Palm Springs where the temps. were close to 80.

Ack. I had to taunt nature. I posted my complaints on the warm winter so far and it just dropped to -28 wind chill and a small snow storm is heading our way. Oh well, I actually do hope it stays cold long enough to get some frost in the ground and kill off those gigga-billion earwig eggs before spring.
