Just bought a pair of M3tis in Beech... sub to follow (kind of concerned about auto-power off subs)... centre channel is home built from my do-it-yourself days (eventually a VP-series) and I've got some wall treatment work (ie: demolition and redrywall -- who uses cedar shakes for panelling?) to do before putting up QS4 surrounds... all in time, I guess.

Did you keep some of that phone cable you pulled out of the ceiling to wire your new speakers?

cedar shakes? oh my...!
My office is in an old building and it's being renovated. The general contractor told us that the existing floorboards and the door frames are made from mahogany of a quality you can't find any more. Unfortunately, it's all painted over.

Oh, of course... nothing says quality like 28ga station wire!

Yeah, it's kind of a neat rustic look for the top section of wall... just not my bag though... going to tear it off (eventually) and either reboard or skimcoat.

I think you're going to love the M3s! Not that it makes a difference, but what's the rest of your rig, and what kind of music do you listen to?

AV Receiver : Yamaha RX-V540
DVD Player : Toshiba SD-1800
CD Player : Harman-Kardon FL-8550 5-disc carousel
Turntable : Sony PS-LX250H
VCR : Citizen ??? (fiancee's - exists to tape her soaps and the occasional soccer game for me)
Cassette Deck: Aiwa AD-WX616C (yes, it's in a box right now)
Television : 27" RCA tube (fiancee's)
Fave music is political punk (Anti-Flag, Dead Kennedys, Lard, NOFX, etc) with a minor in alternative. Not much of a movie/TV fan at all... have a few fave movies but that's about it... can't sit still for 1.5 hours.

Just a shot in the dark, Bren, but I think you might like Lucky Boys Confusion. They're a band out of Chicago, high energy punk/alternative (more alternative than punk) act. Wonderful live, but their CDs are still great.

I prob'ly already recommended Dropkick Murphys also -- but hearing you're into soccer, AND political punk, all the more reason -- Check out their CD "Blackout" which you can order at their Website or Amazon or other places. There are a few downloads on the Dropkick Murhphys site -- kinda hard to find, but linked off the Discography page.

And if you like the DKMs, you'll love The Real McKenzies - the Western Canadian alternative. (Hard to sneak any band on Epitaph, Fat Wreck Chords, Honest Don's, Pink & Black or Alternative Tentacles past me - especially one that's split a 7" with Agnostic Front)
Strangely, the North American release I'm waiting for the most right now is "The Curse of Blondie".

Thanks - I'll check out the Real McKenzies. Any good starting points?

Got my M3s on Friday (2 days after ordering)... Ian - very nice work.
And you know you've done well when my fiancee who can barely tell the difference between a mono and a stereo program goes from "well, I'm glad you're getting your speakers" to "holy crap... when are we getting the rest of our home theatre?"
I've created a monster.

That's not just the speakers. I think she's just transitioning from thinking like a single woman to thinking like a married woman. Is your wedding date approaching? It's amazing how quickly mine and yours becomes mine and ours.

Boo for misogyny!
I don't think she fully realized what the new system would sound like (though I remember my centre channel sounding as good as the commercially built ones in 1990 - there have been some advances in driver/enclosure technology in 15 years!) and after hearing her Evanescence CD in Axiom stereo, suddenly she's on the bandwagon and I don't have any of the rationalization issues that other guys have with their significant others.
'Course... I also confine my twiddling to times when she's not around... when a movie goes on, I leave the remote on the table. (Rule #1 for a healthy HT relationship!)
